Hi Everyone,
This past week my feet, ankles, and calves have swelled up. They don't really hurt unless I press on them in certain spots, if I go out I wear comfy, loosely laced running shoes, and my peri has looked at them and said, "yep, there's definite swelling but that's typical of 34 weeks with twins". So, my concern is more cosmetic, i.e., my feet just look weird, and I have to put on an evening dress for a wedding in 10 days. Any suggestions or tricks that have worked in lowering the swelling (aside from feet up, drink a lot of water)?
Thanks!
Re: Swollen feet, ankles, calves - suggestions?
And one more question...for those of you that dealt with swelling, how long did it take post delivery for your feet to go back to normal?
Thanks again!
I had some major swelling toward the end and just after my C-Section. Aside from the things you've mentioned, I found that DH massaging my feet & ankles in an upward motion really helped. I found that suggestion on line somewhere and, to my delight, it made a difference. So, if you're DH is willing to do ya a favor - try it!
It's a good excuse for a foot rub, even if it doesn't work for you!
I am now 4 weeks post section and my feet/legs are completely back to normal. Not to scare you or anything, but my swelling got SO much worse after the operation (in case you have to go that route), which I guess is normal. It took about 3 weeks for things to improve.
We do the same thing before bed at night so that the swelling goes down by morning. Hubby puts some lotion on my feet and calves, then wraps his hands all the way around my foot starting just above the toes. Slowly and firmly pushes up and over my knee, repeatedly.
My mom learned this from a nurse after one of her deliveries so I've had hubby do this for every pregnancy and postpartum!
