It seems like everyone here either does blw, or feeds purees. Isn't there some in between? We started ds on purees, and he still gets some (mainly at daycare since it is just easier to get together) but he also gets fed what we are having for dinner (minus anything with milk for allergy sake) and eats that as he wants.

Re: Is there an in between to BLW?
I plan on doing a modified type of BLW - I still want to make some chunkier, thicker purees and feed him a few times, and this is probably what we'll do for daycare - but for the most part, I want to let him go for it on his own.
We'll see how it works out in a month or so!
I am always one who is on the BLW threads, but we don't do it like the book. We don't feed DD at the table with us because it wasn't successful, we don't usually feed her what we eat for dinner because we like very spicy foods and often eat tomato or other things she doesn't react well to. We also are vegetarians so we have to often think of what to feed DD because most faux meats are too salty or fatty for her and we don't want to load her up on carbs.
Like tonight for dinner she had steamed carrots, some black beans, some quesadilla - torn up pieces of tortilla with melted cheese inside. I had soup and bread for dinner and DH went out with friends. I still cut things up small, and I spoonfeed her things like yogurt, cottage cheese and oatmeal.
I think lots of people do both - we started with doing both, but after DD made it very clear that she's too independent to have anything to do with being spoon fed we devoted ourselves to BLW. I think just whatever works for you, in any given moment on any given day, is fine.
