Old enough to sleep on stomach?

I'm just curious, how many of you put your baby down to sleep on his or her stomach? I am so tired..is there a stronger word than exhausted? That's me.

LO gets up several times a night. He is strong, during play time he can roll from his back to his stomach, but he chooses not to at night. Yet I know he'd sleep better on his stomach. I know its reccommended to put LO on back and let him roll on his own, but then I will be getting up with him several times.. What are your thoughts? I'm sure I'd probably end up waking several times anyway to check on him........Not sure what to do.

  • My girls just got themselves there and wanted to sleep like that.

  • Today my doctor told me that even though my baby has a super flat head and needs to get off his head, I am not allowed to let him sleep on his stomach EVER.  He's not rolling yet but I didn't even think of that.  When they roll I guess you can't really decide how they sleep.  I personally would wait and make him roll himself since you would feel terrible if something terrible happened and it was possibly your fault.  But then again I am totally overprotective and freak out over everthing.

  • I've never put her down that way but she flips around alot and ends up that way.

When she was little we let her nap that way once or twice when she was really fussy and we were there watching the whole time.

  • I think for now I'm just going to let him sleep on his back, but during the day and at night when DH and I are still awake, we will put him on his stomach, and check on him frequently. I just hope he can start sleeping better on his back, soon!
  • Ds sleep on his tummy and started around 6 mo, but we still always lay him down on his back and let him flip to his tummy himself
  • Mine has for awhile.

  • I put DS down on his stomach... have done it since he was 3 months old.  Once he could reliably lift his head and turn, I put him down like that.  That's when we felt completely comfortable doing it.
