crying....?

so i know this will most likely get me flamed but here it goes....

my LOS are VERY use to mom running and inserting a paci or picking them up at the slightest noise b/c i am/was a VERY nervous 1st time mom.  W/ family and DH always around it was less exhausting.  Well now its just mom and long story short DH trys to avoid helping as much as possible so im on 24/7,  and i need 5 min during the day to eat/clean and heck relax for 5 min.

Here is my question... i brieflly scanned this book the title is failing me now but its something like healthy sleep habits for twins. well they have this techinique called extinction where you let LOs cry for 5 min then go over and sooth them and when they cry again you wait 10 min and so on you get the idea.  I know my LOS are only 7 weeks but i really need to do something to get them to self sooth a bit.  Not to mention everytime thier paci falls out they scream like they are being tortured (espcesially DD).  Am i evil for letting them cry for 5,10 minutes?  will they learn? and if by some chance if anybody agrees w/ this methid some tips would be nice.

I feel like the worlds worst mom but i need to do something... i cant spend my day holding a paci in thier mouth.

Re: crying....?

  • I was like that when my babies were really little too, always running in the bedroom to stick their paci back in.  Eventually we did start letting them cry just a little bit, like your book says (I can't remember at what age though).  They're definitely too young to let them "cry it out", but I think it IS okay to let them cry for a few minutes so you can have a chance to sit down & eat something or take a shower.  As long as they're in the cribs, they'll be safe, and a little crying isn't going to kill them!  You're doing great. • No flames here, don;t worry.  But, at 7 weeksm as exhausted as you are, I wouldn't let them cry for too long.  You've probably read all of this before, but this is my experience.  Maybe try swings for naptime?  It's a bad habit for them, but they should conk out for a while and let you have some down time.  Also, are you swaddling them?  Both of these helped mine take long naps during the day when they were that age.  And, if either is super fussy, maybe you can wear them in a sling while you eat, do things around the house, etc.?  I found using a sling to be really helpful!

I started really sleep training mine, and letting them cry a little, at 7 months, and it worked within a couple of days.  I think if you try it too early, they're not old enough to "get" the point of it and understand the technique.

I hope that helps!!  Good luck with your little ones!!!
