Has anyone taken them or going to take them at all? Are you finding or have you found them to be helpful? Or should I just wait until they show me how at the hospital? Curious on your opinion and whether or not your recommend them. Thanks!
I am taking them! My cousin who is a doula and breast feeding advocate- said i should as it will be very helpful. In reading the book "So, Thats What They're For"- the more i read the more i thought... i think ill be taking a class. there is so much more to it than i orginally thought!
I've heard they are pretty worthless because you forget most of it anyways. Having the babe in arms with a lactation consultant has been said to be more helpful.
I don't. Only because the hosp. I delivered DD at (and will deliver DS at) has fabulous lactation specialists. They come in daily & can come if you page them, if you need them more then once a day. They were so helpful. They also call you every other day when you are home to see if you have ?'s (for the first 2 weeks). When your DC is 2 weeks old they invite you to breastfeeding classes (for FREE) at the hospital, just incase you are having problems. When I heard about this I wasn't about to spend the $ in advance. You may want to check & see if your hospital offers anything like this for once your DC is born. I really found it so helpful, so I'll just utilize them again if I have problems this time around.

Honestly, I bet it depends on the kind of learner you are. If you're the kind of person that learned well in school without a lot of hands-on stuff, a class would probably be useful.
My hospital has a bunch of these classes, but my OB told me not to sign up 'til 24 weeks or so (and that they probably won't put me in a class 'til I'm 30 weeks).
In the meantime I got the "nursing mother's companion" and while it's a bit crunchy-granola in some of it's philosophical leanings, the specifics on how to get a baby to latch on/ways to hold it, etc. seem really useful. I'll probably read it a couple of times before giving birth and hopefully some of it will sink in.
If you truly want to b/f then I reccommend them and hear that they are wonderful resources. I don't think the childbirth classes are worth a darn though, from experience. Nothing you didn't already know from health class.
I took them before I had my son. I knew absolutely nothing about breast feeding and only had one friend to ask advice from, so I thought they were it was very informative.
I took it with my first, and would not recommend it. It's very hard to learn how to breastfeed without actually having a baby, and you can get the information they give from books. I read the Nursing Mother's companion, and none of the information in the class was new. I also felt like they put a lot of guilt on us to BF. I had every intention, but it was very difficult, and I struggled a lot with it. I ended up BF for 8 months, but it was much harder getting started than I expected, and if it doesn't end up working out for you I think after taking the class you would feel more guilty than if you didn't. Just my 2cents. Good luck!
