Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Graves Disease?

Two months after my loss (at 12w), I've been diagnosed with graves disease and it has been determined that this likely was the reason for my loss.  Has anyone else been diagnosed with this this?  I'm curious to hear from anyone who has it and has gone on to get pregnant.  Stories or advice?  Thanks.

Re: Graves Disease?

  • I'm sorry I have no info for you. Wanted to say that I am sorry for your loss and I hope that you will be able to have a successful pregnancy with this disease.

  • I'm sorry for your loss and your recent diagnosis.  I do not have Grave's Disease but a good friend of mine does.  She has two beautiful girls now.  Her first daughter was conceived via IVF and then second was conceived naturally.  Research all of your options and talk to a few different doctors.  There is definitely a way!  Good luck to you!
  • Hi!

Someone from BOTB told me you asked about GD.

I was diagnosed in 2001.  I have it pretty severely, and I was STILL able to get pregnant.

Graves is a little scary, but I pinky swear once they get your meds leveled it is totally manageable.  What meds did they give you and it what doses?

No one knows for sure since I never ovulated {or had a period} until my surgery this past summer, but my doctor theorizes that my PCOS and endo are both side effects of the Graves having screwed up my body.

I've been able to live pretty normally.  I am a competitive runner and have been since 9th grade.  I get tired a little more easily, but honestly, I just eat a very adequate number of calories to keep the weight on.

If you have any questions you can PM me.  I was only 17 when I was diagnosed, so I have been dealing with it for a while now.

    Hope that helps!

  •  I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  I had it and knew about it but I feel that is was the cause of my miscarriage.  My endo told me to stop taking my PTU and I did.  About a week later I miscarried and I felt horrible just like I did before I ever started the PTU.  Don't know if it was related but I feel that it was.  I do know that there is a higher risk of miscarriage with Graves' If you have any other questions feel free to page me on the TTCAL board.
