Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Toddlerisms

I love how my boys come up with their own pronunciations/words for things. Share the funny things your LOs say here.

DS1 calls Lincoln Logs "Blinkin Blogs" and it cracks me up every time he says it. He also loves that movie G-Force with the guinea pigs, but he calls them "mini pigs." LOL

DS2 calls everything he wants to eat a 'na-na' because bananas are his favorite food, and the first real food he ate. If he wants to eat something he thinks is particularly yummy, he will come up to you going NA-NA-NA-NA! It's precious. And he named his big brother "Bubba" all on his own, because we call DS1 'brother' whenever we are talking to DS2.

I love being a mom ;)

Re: Toddlerisms

  • Sydney loves to lift a toy into the air and say "UP!" and then "NOM!"  Nom = Down.  But I always think of ICANHASCHEEZBURGER.

  • I love it too! DS cracks me up now that he repeats everything I say with that quizzical look on his face and says it as if he's questioning me.

This week I've become Mommy instead of Momma and it total cracks me up when DS is calling Dada, Dada, Dada louder and louder and if H doesn't respond, he starts calling his first name.

And this is why I can't wait to have 2 boys!!

Mine:  Well, D only has one word ("Up!") and it can mean - Pick me up, I want to go upstairs, Put me down, I want to go downstairs, I want to get out of bed, or Read me this book.  There are probably a few other things that it means that I can't think of off the top of my head.

  • I love how DS will say, "Mommy, hold you," when he wants to be held.

Mine do this, too! LOL - it's so funny!

  • She shouts "Hoo-way!" whenever she sees/hears/eats something she likes.  That's my absolute favorite.

And cute, but kind of bittersweet...

We've been talking about DS to prepare DD for his homecoming (whenever that might be)... she has started saying "Where Eck-ick?"

  • If he wants a cookie, he doesn't say it once...he says it three times like Cookie Monster: "Cookie, Cookie, Cookie!"

If he wants tickled, he gets an ornery look on his face and says "TICK-TICK!" and runs so you can chase him.

He calls yogurt "Bum". I think he is trying to say "Yum". lol

  • DS is trying his hardest to say apple.  He has the "ah" down, but can't get the "pple" out.  So he just stands there going "ahhhh".  The look on his face is priceless.  He looks like he's in pain trying to get that rest of the word out.

  • Two more:

Spongebob is Bob Bob.  (DCP has it on sometimes...)

    Dinner time is UmmyYummy??

  • More = mommymommy! mommymommy! She's not actually saying mommy because she doesn't call me mommy. I thought she was, but she's not. I'm still kitty.

  • Natalie - when she passes a mirror (vain child), painting or something artistic goes "oooh pweety".

They both say sissy or tister (sister). Currently, the have conversations with each other on cell phones. Too cute!

  • My son thinks his belly button is called a "bloop bloop bloop" because I used to make that noise and push his belly button.  Now he will say it and push his belly button on his own.
  • DD calls a juicebox a "try".  I guess it comes from the fact that she's really bad at drinking from them,. but when she gets one, I say, "ok, let's just try".  Also, Shrek the Halls (DD's latest obession because she loves the babies) is "Ho-Babies" , from Ho-Ho-Ho (anything Christmas related).  I just wished she knew how it sounds when she's yelling "more ho-babies" at the top of her lungs.
  • "Go, Go, Go?" could mean...

    • Where are we going?
    • Where did ___ go?
    • Why did my round pea suddenly become flat when i squished it?

  • I love the things that come out of their mouths!

Whenever DS gets excited about something he says, "wow, wow, wow."  Always 3X.

Has anyone seen the Family Guy commercial where Stewie calls for Lois umpteen times and then she finally responds and Stewie goes, "hi."  My son does this.

I also find it irresistibly cute when he says "sawee" (sorry).  I could go on and on though...

  • When DS is finished eating he says aaaannnnnnn (sounds like on but very drawn out) this is supposed to be all done.
  • When she sings ring around the rosey instead of saying ashes ashes, she says assy assy haha

  • DD has three different names for the pacifier:  bobo, paci, and fier.  Well, I guess she got tired of going through all three iterations so now it's a "bobo-paci."  It always reminds me of "Boba Fett" from Star Wars.

There's the famous 'tar for "guitar" (that everyone on the bump repeated when I was asking where to find one--hilarious)

It's quite fun to hear her versions of songs:  E.g. "Al rescate amigos to the rescue my friends" from Go Diego Go and "DDDD Dora! DDora"  She's actually pretty accurate, but just inaccurate enough to be hilarious.

  • Maddie has lots of cute words for things. Tigger from Winnie the Pooh is cheecher. he pacifier is known as "daaaaaaa". All things to eat are cookies. She ran around for a full 10 minutes last night yelling "ticka, ticka.ticka..." cause I tickled her in the bathtub.

  • ds loves to look at pics of my friend's dd who lives across the country. her name is olivia. when he wants to see her pic, he says "olilala." i love it.

pp- i love the bloop bloop thing. so cute!

  • When DD first started talking we were at my parent's house and some of their friends had a dog named Daisy. After that trip every animal we saw was named Daisy. It was so cute!

  • This is a daily conversation in our house:

    Me: "Did you poop?"

    J: "No!"

    Me: "Are you lying?"

    J: "ROAR"

It took me about a week to figure out that she thought I was asking her if she was a LION, instead of lying.  It cracks us up every single time.

  • DD loves animals and calls every animal she sees "zee."  We have two cats (Eli and Zoe) and I think she's picked up on the "z" sound from Zoe and the common "eee" sound from both and has decided every animal is "zee."  It's very cute.  As I was putting her in the car the other day, a woman walked by with her fluffy dog and DD went crazy, pointing and saying "zee...zee...zee..."  :-)

  • I have to chime in:

My two favorite things that DS1 will do are:
he runs into a room where the baby is, points, and shouts, "YOOK, MAMA! EEZ DA-HULL! DERE HE EEZ!" every.time.
and the second is, he'll pull his shirt up and say, "belly. right dere." and want me to blow raspberries on it. His eyes roll into the back of his head in ecstasy whenever I get his belly.

And DS2 is adorable these days. EVERYTHING is "mama" (he crawls around saying "mama. mama. mama. MA. MA." so I've started responding to it with big overtures to get him to understand that *I* am mama. This means he'll say "mama" and then turn to look at me so that I can capture him and nom on him all over.

    I love these kids.

  • My favorite is "o-da-mae"  which means hold me.  It's so adorable

This made me LOL for real.

  • Ok, so here's Spider Pig's new thing:

After watching My Friends Tigger and Pooh, Thomas turns to me and says:

"Mam, I do: think! think! think!" (while pointing to his head).

DH and I just about fell out of our chairs the first time he said it last week.

  • Reading all of yours I thought of 2 more.

Our neighbor is Liz. So when DS see's her truck driving up the street he says "der Mith Liz" (there's Miss Liz) he also calls all of our female neighbors Miss Liz

DS says his main man is Dada so I ask him who's his favorite gal and he goes Moo, he thinks I'm saying favorite cow

You win for funniest one.  That is hilarious.

  • DD doesn't say the "H" sound so the stove is "ot" and the thing that keeps her head warm is her "at."  She is so stinking cute!

  • Michael's answer to every question is "no". I'll say, "Do you want milk?" and he'll shake his head and say "no", and then run to the fridge and try to open it.

I say "One" and he says "Two", and then laughs hysterically. I'm not sure what's so funny about this though!

  • DD is loading the ball popper up with goldfish crackers right now. I love when she is calling dog and DH thinks she is calling him.
