DH and I were thinking that for Christmas we would get a video camera as our gifts to each other. But I'm just curious how often we'll really use it. We do have a video function on my regular camera. Do you ladies with video cameras use them a lot? Or is it just another electronic device sitting around the house. If you do have one, any recs on the type of camera to get?

My blog * We made the national news!
Good to know. I was pushing for a Flip and MH was pushing for something "better" but the ILs are giving us a Flip on Christmas.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
My husband and I got a Sony Handicam recently so we could video tape the kids, animals, and everything else. So far we have been using it like crazy and love it. The features are great (my husband loves the touch screen), the video is really high quality, and it is easy to download to the computer or hook up to dvd burner for quick copies.
If you are thinking about a video cam I would really suggest this one. Right now I have seen it for around $200 at Best Buy and Walmart. My daughter has a flip and it does ok but she says it is not that great, especially compaired to the Handicam , and it was almost the same price (she is huge into film/ photography).
This is just our opinons though. I hope you find something you really like.

we use it all the time. we keep it in a spot where we can grab it quickly at any time - so when something super cute is happening we can get it on film. our cameras only do so much time with video- and not as good- so we love our video camera. I can't imagine having children without one!
it's especially great to set up on tripold and video things like x-mas morning - we can get the whole experience without having to hold a camera up - or worry about the time running out.
every day i say i am going to make a video and then i always forget. but when i do, i love using it!! i am someone who needs a camera and video camera...the video function on the camera just isnt the same.
Almost never. It was a pain to get out and remember to charge the battery. I use the video function in my camera all the time.
A flip camera wouldn't be a bad choice either.
To be honest - hardly every. It was really a waste of money for us.
But that is because both DH & I are picture people - we like taking the pictures (digital) and such.
We do use it when they say started to crawl and will try to use it to get them on camera when they start to walk.
