I think it's a last name, which just goes along with the trend of using last names as first names (which has always been a trend, but is gaining popularity). I am not a fan of the trend and therefore am not a fan of Delaney as a first name.
I have had a few little girls in my class named Delaney... and I also called them Laney or Laney d and laney s... but I do think it is too popular. I have had about 6 Delaneys in only 2 years... It's becoming very very popular, and hard to keep track of all the kid'os!!
its my neice's name. I wasn't a fan at first, but it has grown on me and I really like it. actually, we never call her by a shortened name..huh..never thought about that fwiw, her name is Delaney Nicole
I've loved this name ever since Jimmy Buffett wrote the song "Delaney Talks to Statues" on his "Fruitcakes" CD. It's a really sweet song that you should check out, as the whole premise of the tune is how taken he is with his daughter, Delaney, and how much he loves her as she's growing up.
My niece is Delanie Grace and my boyfriend's niece is Delany Rose. I love the name. My niece is called Lanie, Laners or DeDe (by her baby brother only). My BF's niece only goes by Delany
Re: WDYT of Delaney
This. And I don't know exactly why, but I'm just not a fan of it. It sounds too much like a last name to me, i.e., Dana Delaney.

I like it.
Lanie is a cute NN
why do you need a NN?
I'm not a fan of last names as 1st names tho it seems to be the THING right now.....
Nope. Sorry.
I do like "Laney". But as a nickname for something else...like Elaine.

Well, shoot. Now I want to listen to that song.
