Poll: OB dr -vs- Fam. dr

did everyone use an OB doctor or did anyone continue to see their Family Practice doctor for your pregnancy?

Or a midwife?

  • I'm using a midwife but I've never had a FP dr that I loved. I just had dinner with a friend tonight and she used her family dr and the doctor was wonderful through her pregnancy and made a point to be there for her delivery. She now brings her baby to the dr for well baby checkups. I think it just really depends on your dr.

  • I used an OB only because I've always gone to a separate OB/Gyn.  I didn't even think of using Family Practice until I went to my regular doctor for something after having DC1 and they said how much they would have loved to have been my doctor.  They said they really enjoy OB work and make the effort to be there at the delivery and all (where at my OB you get who is on call).

I stayed the OB route since that is the way I went originally---and I ended up with c-sections both times so I am pleased with my decision but it is definitely something worth exploring.

  • I used a family practice dr.  When I first went to the clinic they didn't have any full time OBs (now they have 2).  She is a very popular dr and delivers tons of babies so I was not concerned about that.  Now she is DD and DSs dr and it's really nice.
  • Midwife here. I don't really have a family practice doctor. I'm really bad about going to the doctor...so on the very rare ocassion I go, I just see whoever is available. When I was pregnant with Olivia I called to make an appointment and just had them set me up with any available, female...and they had me see my midwife. I loved her...the appointments seem so much less formal, more relaxed. So, I stuck with her this go round. Although, around 20 weeks I either have to switch to an OB, or see both, to make sure I'm a candidate for a VBAC/remain a candidate.

  • I used a midwife and definitely will next time around as well.  I can't say enough great things about the Health East midwives.  (I even had some complications after giving birth, and they handled them wonderfully)
  • my/our family dr. is an ob as well so i keep her-6 years now.  she delivered my first child, will deliver this one and see them both as well.  i love her!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • When we originally started trying to get pregnant w/baby #1, I looked for a Family Dr who also did OB. I found one I really liked and have been with her for 5 yrs now. She's done all my preventive care, prenatal care, delivered my DD, is my DD's Dr and will deliver and continue caring for baby #2. I love the fact she knows me, as well as, my family!
