organic crib mattress?

Wondering if you've read anything that suggests the organic crib mattress is a must, or whether just getting an organic mattress cover should suffice since that is what is closest to the baby (besides sheet) anyhow?

I have Raising Baby Green, which convinved me that an organic mattress is a must. There are harsh chemicals in regular mattresses, and I would prefer to minimize my baby's exposure to them.
