Lovenox bruising- normal? PIP

Sorry for all my Lovenox questions, but I really don't have a point of reference or know anyone else who has been through this, so I hope you guys don't mind!

Today is my 10th day on Lovenox.  I just feel like I've been bruising A LOT.  What do you think? Is it a normal amount? See below...

(the mega bruise used to be a cluster of smaller bruises like the other one, but at my Dr. appt on Tuesday, the Dr. was pressing on my tummy, and when I got home and looked down, that's what had happened... maybe popped a blood vessel or something...?)

 thanks!

  • Acutally, your looks better than mine did!  I did it across the bottom of the belly so the entire area was covered.  As I went along and my body adjusted and the bruising lessened, but everyone is different.

When I moved on to my thigh, it got a lot better too.

  • Yep, normal - looks like mine looks!
  • make sure you are injecting slowly and not pulling the needle out until all of the medicine and air bubble are gone. that helped me a lot! But yeah, some bruising is inevitable. I also found that DH could get a better angle than I could so he does the shots for me now. Icing after the injection for 15 minutes or so seems to help as well.
  • That looks about right.  Fun times!
  • Thanks, I feel better knowing I'm not alone with all this bruising!  You guys are great, I love the supportiveness of this board  :)

    this.

and make sure you aren't massaging the area. Unfortunately though no matter what I did sometimes I still got those huge bruises! Ouch! I don't miss that part of being pregnant. Hope they get better!

  • oh you're fine!!!!  those bruises are nothing compared to when i first began.  2 years later and i dont' bruise at all... it'll get better in a few weeks, trust me!
  • I get bruising too. I  find putting pressure on it for 2 minutes helps a lot afterwards. I just take a tissue and apply pressure immediately afterwards. My nurse told me that and it helps the one side...the other side I have a cluster of bruises too. Good luck!
  • Very normal. Since it lengthens the time for the blood to clot, you will bruise alot easier. Also, make sure not to rub the area after the injection.
  • I stopped injecting on my belly b/c the bruises were significantly larger than if I injected elsewhere. I inject twice a day, so at night DH injects in my bootie and in the morning, I inject on my hip (more fat there). I found that it's better if I ice before and sometimes after, too. If I don't ice, I 100% get a big 'ol bruise. GL!
