zofran pump?

Hey girls,

I was wondering if anyone had been told they might need the Zofran pump?  I am puking right through my pills and can't seem to get any relief, i am pretty much miserable all day long. When they described to me what the pump actually was, it made me nervous.

Any advice?

 Thanks.

Re: zofran pump?

  • I was really close to getting the pump, but started to feel better around week 18 or so. The thought of it scared me, too.

I do have to say, I would have done anything to feel better at that point. I lost more than 25 lbs and was barely making it out of bed to go to the ER for IV fluids. If the pump will help, go for it.

((HUGS)) there is nothing worse than being so sick for so long. I hope you get some relief soon.

  • I had a Zofran pump for many, many weeks.  Starting by about 7 weeks and well into the 20s weeks.  Honestly I blocked that part out.  I HATE being pregnant, but love the outcome!  I am a complete needle phobe and sticking myself was awful, but the relief was worth it.  I will worn you that the zofran is extremely painful and makes hard knots on your legs that hurt.  I had to change my site just under every 12 hours and they would still hurt.  As I began feeling better it got to the point that I didn't know which was worse, the puking or the sore legs.  I'm pretty sure you have to do it w/ a home monitoring company - Alere - used to be Matria.  You have to call them everyday and report your weight and ketones.  You also have to call them to change the doseage.  But really other than poking yourself it was pretty easy.  It was nice being set up on it as well, b/c after I was on it and needed fluids I got IV fluids at home in my recliner instead of having to go to the emergency room or l&d.

Hey girl. Theworms was just telling me today about your struggle with M/S.  She had thought that you did get the pump, so I was actually going to page you about it.  I am going to try and hold out for a little longer. I can eat in the mornings, but nights are a no go. I can't wait for it to go away!!!!

  • I had a zofran pump with my twin pregnancy and my youngest son as well.  With my twins, I was on it from week 12 until I delivered at 32 weeks.  I also had home iv therapy from week 12-14, PO reglan and zantac.  I also went to L&D a lot for iv's.  With my youngest, I was on a pump from week 8 to week 26 and had a week around 14 weeks when we considered a PICC line and a feeding tube as well.  I also had reglan and zantac with him.  Have you gone on helpher.org?
  • I had a reglan pump from weeks 12-22. It causes less local irritation than zofran, so I was able to leave a site in for 3-4 days. (Which meant I had to saran wrap it in the shower, but oh well!)

I had a homecare nurse come once a week to check the site, my vitals, weight, and urine. I also got some IV fluids at home.

I was also taking zofran disintegrating tablets and phenergan suppositories (I wasn't able to swallow pills anymore.)

I hope they find something that helps you soon, it's miserable.

  • I had a zofran pump from about weeks 12 until about 18. I had tried every script that they could give me. Regular pills and the dissolvable. Nothing would work. I lost 15 lbs in one month (6 of that in less than a week) so my dr said that I needed a pump. She set it up with Alere (formerly Matria) I also had IV therapy when I was still throwing up on the pump (which was only the first few days until my body adjusted)

As a pp said, the zofran pump was irritating to my skin. It did hurt if I put it in my legs. I ventured and tried to put it on my abdomen because i was  running out of places on my legs. I was scared at first, but it actually was WAYYY less irritating. I could actually leave those in for the full 3 days! That helped wth the anxiety of the pump, knowing that i could leave it in and not have to poke myself for 3 more days. They slowly started weaning me off the pump when I was eating and my ketones were consistentaly well. It sucked at the beginning, but it was totally worth it. I couldn't have done it without my pump.

If you have any questions or need to pick my brain, just pm me! I'm on BR for the next 2 weeks, so I should be around!
