Goldie, could use your experience

I know your DS was about the same age as mine when your twins were born and you had a c/s.  My DH will be going back to work next week (thank goodness the next 2 weeks are short weeks) so won't have as much time off of work as yours.

My instructions from leaving the hospital are not to lift anything over 20 pounds for 6w.  DS is a tad over 30 (he was 29 pounds at his 2 year appt).  How did you feel picking up your DS?  Luckily we have a stool next to the changing table so he can get himself up and down from there, but what about getting him in and out of his crib for nap time.  DH can get him out in the morning and put him back in his crib at night, but DS will only nap in his crib so there's not really another option.  I know that right NOW I can't pick him up, just wondering how I'll feel on Tuesday (Monday he has preschool and I'll probably have IL's watch him while I go get my staples removed) which will be 12 days post c/s.  Just wondering how you felt.  I'm semi stressing over this, I hate that I can't take care of DS like I want (haven't been able to for some time from "taking it easy" to "BR", to just being big and uncomfortable).  TIA.

  • Thought I'd share since I have been there too. :) I had my c-section follow-up at 3 weeks and my Dr. okayed me to start lifting Rhett when I absolutely had to. He was 25 pounds and I did fine lifting him in and out of the crib.

  • I'm no help- because Greg was home with me for 4 weeks- and Griffin was in daycare full time while i was on  maternity leave - so i didn't have all 3 by myself until I went back to work PT -at almost 5mo PP.  DH would put Griffin in and out of the crib at night/morning and for naps on the weekend.

My OB didn't want me lifting until my 6w PP appt unless i absolutly HAD to, and since I didn't have to- I didn't lift him until 6w.  Griffin is about 36lbs.

I would ask your OB - you probably can do it a couple times a day for naps at 2w... or maybe you could set up a step for him to climb into the crib so you only have to take him out? Not sure if you'd want to encourage that, though b/c he might start climbing out on his own :)

sorry- wish i had more words of wisdom - i was VERY lucky having DH home for so long and being able to keep Griffin in school for my maternity leave.  Now, having all 3 home 2 days/week is fine- but it would have been a lot harder when i was only 2 weeks PP and recovering still. ... but you can do it!!!!

  • I was in your same situation. I found that I could get dd out of her crib fairly easily because she was already up high enough when she stood I didn't have to exert much energy. Getting her in the crib was harder because I had to pick her up from the floor. My suggestion for making that easier is have him climb up on a chair or the couch and stand up so you can pick him up from that level instead of starting from bending/squatting down. On the bright side, it wasn't hardly anytime at all (maybe just over 2 weeks) before I could pick her up without much trouble. I had a pretty easy recovery though.
