Question about stripping re: Dawn

I bought the blue dawn and I want to make sure it's the right one. It says it's "ultra concentrated" and it's the original scent. Is that the right one?

Also, I was reading the instructions on the EFF blog and it says to use a squirt, around how much is a squirt? A teaspoon? A tablespoon? I'm so worried I'm going to mess this up!

Re: Question about stripping re: Dawn

  • You can use the ultra-concentrated one, just not too much.  You can always run another load with more Dawn if you need to, but you're going to be doing a LOT of extra rinses if you use too much.

    I little bit, I say, is about a teaspoon, esp. w/ ultra-concentrated.

FWIW, you can find the regular, un-ultra-concentrated version at Wal-Mart.

I don't know what kind of washer you have, but always err very much on the side of "just a little" when using a FL/HE machine because Dawn suds a LOT which, if used in excess, can break your machine.

  • Thank you! I have a top loader. Do you think I should get the un-ultra concentrated from Wal-Mart, or just go ahead and use this stuff?
  • Well, if you haven't opened what you got and can return it without spending extra in gas because you happen to have a Wal-Mart near you as well as the store you bought what you have from--- then yes, I would get the un-UC kind. (hope that made sense!).  I would only do that because it's a lot cheaper (like, 79 cents per bottle).  But it wouldn't be worth it if you have to drive extra to get places.  Also, it doesn't freak me out quite as much in my FL machine.  But you don't have that issue :)

Bottom line, what you have now will work just fine, just use less (because it will work "better" since it's ultra-concentrated!).  Still, like a teaspoon I'd say.

  • I used a tsp of the ultra concentrated in our top loader. Didn't break anything, but also didn't get rid of the stink in our microfiber FBs. Sad
