Bladder infection or normal pregnancy stuff?

I have been having some symptoms that I chalked up to normal pregnancy stuff, but now I'm wondering. When my bladder gets full, if I wait too long to pee, it becomes like, painful. I get almost instant relief when I pee, but usually if I wait that long it will usually get painful again after a few minutes, then I pee again, and then it's fine until the next time I wait too long. I also will sometimes feel like I still need to pee but no pee or just a trickle comes out. I don't have any burning or anything but I'm starting wonder if this is normal... anyone else have this?

  • this happened to me, turned out i had a bladder infection.. but i didn't have any pain while peeing... but everything you just described, were the symptoms i had.. and that's what the urinalysis confirmed.. bladder infection..

  • I've had something that sounds kind of similar.  It goes and comes, so I haven't been too worried about it so far.  I find it doesn't really come as often if I'm drinking plenty of fluids too.

I would say if it sticks around for a long time, it might be good to ask your doctor, or even ask about it at your next check up.

  • My next appointment is a week from today... I guess I'll ask about then. Unless it gets worse or something. BOOOOOO possible bladder infection!

  • I would insist you go to the doctor and get yourself checked.  From someone who has been having issues with bladder infections my whole pregnancy, I experienced all these same symptoms.  You need to be very careful with bladder infections because they can creep into the kidneys and result in premature labor (we have a family friend who gave birth to her son at 6 months because of a pre-existing bladder infection that turned into a kidney infection)/

    Good luck.

Yes, do that. UTI and bladder infections are common during pregnancy but it doesn't mean that it should be overlooked. Like the PP said, infection gets into different places in your body, and it's NEVER good to have an infection of any kind while pregnant.

  • This is tmi but do you have blood in your urine that you can see?  That is always my sign before I even have the discomfort when I pee.  Drink lots of cranberry juice and feel better!
  • I had this last week and started drinking 100% cranberry juice like it was my job.  I also made sure that I went to the bathroom at the first signal that I had to pee.  Pre-pg I had a bad habit of holding it too long and ended up with an inflammed bladder that felt like I had an infection but didn't.  That said if it's painful and doesn't go away, def call your Dr because as OP's have said, if it gets to the kidneys it can be very serious.
