Timing of pregnancy after twins?

For those of you who have had twins as your first children (none older than them), how much of a gap is there between the twins & your next child?

DH & I have been thinking about TTC #3 in the coming months, and I'm just trying to decide if we're crazy or not!  Part of me is totally ready & excited, while another part of me can't imagine what my girls will be like around their 2nd birthday (they're not quite walking yet) & not sure if I could handle two crazy toddlers & a newborn!  Just looking for some encouragement from someone who has been there, I guess!

  • There's only going to be 13 months between Sofia and Ava and our new baby.  It was a complete surprise.

  • We have triplets not twins, but we hope to get pregnant next month. If all goes well and I go a full 40 weeks the trio should be 27 months when the new one comes. Good luck!

  • My twins are 14 almost 15 months and we always originally said we'd start ttc this summer.  I don't know if that's going to happen now with the other things going on in our lives.. .but ideally that's what we wanted.  I'd like our 3rd to be close in age to the twins if at all possible.

  • Our triplets will be 19 months when this baby is born. I have no idea what life will be like but I think we can do it. Everyday it seems the kids are more independent.
  • Griffin was 2y2mo when the twins were born and I really think that was the perfect age --- he was young enough that he quickly forgot what it was like to be the only child- and old enough to do many things on his own, and even help us a little bit (get us bibs, put the baby's paci back in, etc).  We started TTC when he was 15mo... i think he was 18mo when we got pg with the twins. I love the age split- and think it would work well for twins + infant, too. Esp b/c the twins will be playing with each other a lot by that age. The hardest thing for me is that Griffin needs me to play with him all the time- so the babies almost get neglected - they do love to watch him play, though :)
  • I'll let you know in Feb!  The boys will be 21mos when baby sis arrives.  I've convinced myself that I'll just deal w/ the mayhem!  Sippy cups, diapers and baby crap will be OUT of my house in a few years - it's better than stringing along the clutter.

(course, I'd have a great argument if they were 5 yrs apart too)!

  • we are waiting until my girls are 3 to TTC...but I will be high risk again and we felt that life at our house would be more manageable for DH if the girls were older in the event that I am placed on BR again.
  • Thanks to everyone who replied!  I enjoy hearing from other people in similar situations, whether you've already "been there, done that" or have it still to come!  We feel pretty good about our decision, just haven't decided specifically when to start trying.  I just don't look forward to all of the other people saying "how will you ever do it?"  Even now, we've always just said, "You just DO."  :-)
  • I'd like about 3 years between our twins and the next baby, if we have one. I'd really like the boys to be potty-trained, able to communicate somewhat, and a bit more independent before adding another baby to the mix.

  • Although I had a child before the twins there was an almost 8 year difference between them and him.  We had planned on trying again when Jon and Matthew were 2, instead I had our youngest 4 days before they were 2.  The first year was hard but I look at it this way, I'm going to be done with diapers and didn't need to buy all new equipment when I had him.  Now the three little boys are very close and the twins idolize their big brother :)
