We attended a retirement party this past Friday for which I sent in a check (to cover our dinners) two weeks prior. The check was sent to the police department, which is where DH's friend was retiring from.
The check still hasn't been cashed and I'm just wondering how long I should give it before I call them to find out what the deal is.
It's just a pet peeve of mine to have checks outstanding for a long period of time and wondering how long I can give it... I don't want to seem like a jerk by calling.
Re: Uncashed Check: How Long to Wait Before Calling?
you can usually cash a check up to six months later.
two weeks is nothing. i wouldn't bother calling well until after the new year.
I agree I would worry about calling yet. And thanks for that bit of info Stacy. I wrote a check for wedding gift back in May and they still have not cashed it.(Guess they didn't need it). I guess it is safe to write it back into our account on Quicken.
I would wait at least a month.
But, don't be like me and forget that the check never cleared and wonder why you have a huge overage in your checking account, add the amount back in and then overdraft when the check finally clears TWO MONTHS LATER.
I felt like an idiot.
Eeeeeek!
I'm tired of seeing it as outstanding on my budget spreadsheet. LOL. Ugh.
