3rd Trimester

Anyone not gain a lot of weight?

My nurse seemed more concerned with my lack of weight gain yesterday then my doctor did.  I'm at 30 weeks and up 11 pounds.  The baby is measuring on track so that's all the doctor cares about.  Anyone getting different feedback from theirs?

Re: Anyone not gain a lot of weight?

  • I am around 28 weeks and have gained a total of 9 lbs and my doc is not worried either.  Baby is on track and growing!

  • No clue on your body type or prepg info but as for me....I am just shy of 39wks and only up 17lbs today (4lbs of which are winter boots!  I weighed them when I got home- lol)...

Dr hasn't said squat about my weight and nurses haven't either although all the nurses I've had have been AMAZING with positiveness and encouragement...totally weird and completely appreciated!

If dr says baby is good, then I'm not worried!  :-)

  • I have gained 15lbs. That's it! They never said anything to me but I am over weight to start. I'm being induced on tuesday so I don't see myself gaining much more.

  • I got totally the opposite, Apparently if I dont gain another pound that would be for the best and I am only 28 weeks.  but my doctor said that it is ok not to gain much weight as long as you weren't too small to start with. He said some people who are over weight actually loose weight during pregnancy and have healthy babies... so just eat healthy and try not to stress too much!  If the baby is measuring right on, it is probably getting what it needs.

  • My doctor just cares that I gain weight. I probably didn't gain anything til about 28 weeks, and at nearly 39 weeks, I'm only up 9 lbs. I started out overweight, so I wasn't overly concerned about gaining too little. Don't stress unless your dr does - 11 lbs sounds good if you started out at a normal or above-normal weight.

  • 15lbs since my 8 week visit. I'm hoping I stay around this weight til delivery!

I only gained 16lbs with DS, but I definatly have enough weight on me already, so this was actually a good range for me...

I think that as long as your eating healthy and not "dieting" then you should be fine..

  • At my 34 week appt I had gained 16 lbs. Then a week later I was up 6 lbs! I think some people just retain lots of water. I look really swollen in the face. I think if your baby is on track you should be fine.

  • I am 39w tomorrow and have only gained 8lbs and my MWs are fine with it. They did have me keep a nutrition log just to make sure I was eating enough. Turns out, I was, but not eating often enough.  I needed to add a few snacks and protein sources in. I added protein shakes and have gained 3lbs since doing so. The baby has looked good the whole time and the midwife thinks LO is just taking off my fat stores and speeding up my metabolism.

  • I'm still 9 under. My doc is concerned. Until your doc says something, don't worry.
  • I have a smaller frame (4 pre pregnancy) so I guess I just assumed I'd gain more.  Not that I'm complaining, was just wondering.

    Thanks for your responses!

  • Doc has always been really happy with my weight gain but I was overweight prepreg so might be different.  I had only gained 8lbs at 30 weeks now I am up to 18lbs total.
  • I am only up 10 lbs and wasnt considered overweight pre-preg.... everyone is different
  • I'm only up one pound and my LO is measuring a bit small. I got put on a high calorie diet and limited exercise at my 28 week appt.
  • I'm almost 35 weeks and have only gained 9 lbs. Baby is measuring right on track, even a few days ahead. My OB isn't concerned at all.
  • I'm up 13 lbs. at 33 weeks.  I was a fatty, though, so doctor is happy.  Also, I didn't have a lick of morning sickness to help me lose. :(
  • 29 weeks & I'm up 11 pounds. (size 2/4 pre-pregnancy and 120 lbs.) I'm telling you - it's from my mom's amazing genes! I'm not exercising & simply trying to make healthier eating choices....although I did just down a reindeer made of chocolate :)

Baby is measuring right on track and the doctors aren't worried.

  • As long as your doctor isnt concerned I wouldnt be. I am 37 weeks and I have only gained 15 pounds. As long as the baby is measuring fine that everything should be okay!

  • i guess it depends on where you started out.   i have gained right around 14lbs but i started out heavier so that is right where i need to be-and since baby is about 6.5 lbs right now that leaves me around 7 lbs of water and my own weight.  doable
  • Im 29 wks tomorrow and up until my appt today i havent gained anything. I was up 9 lbs at my appt today and dr was fine w/it

  • i'm up 13 @ 30w. I was 140 5'4 to start. dont worry, they'll let you know if there is a problem.
  • At 28 weeks I had gained about 9-10 pounds. Now at 33.5 I am up to 16 pounds. We are aiming for a 25 pound weight gain.

As long as you are continually gaining each appointment, no problems with my doctor. The baby grows nearly 1/2 pound a week at this stage in the game, so you need to keep gaining a little bit between every appointment!

I was up about the same way as you when I was 30 weeks pregnant and I am also someone who was smaller pre-pregnancy. In the past 10 weeks, I've put on an additional 17lbs. You still have a long way to go, the weight just may come later on.

  • Well, in my first trimester I lost 20 pounds from m/s. And I have gained 17 back.  So I now weigh 3 pounds less than I did at my 6 week appointment..but I have gained some weight in my pregnancy.  My doctor said anyone who starts out bigger than normal is fine without gaining weight. So I am pleased that I won't have anything to lose when she gets here!

  • I'm almost 33 weeks and have only gained 8 lbs. ?My doc is actually really pleased and hopes I'll only gain about 15 lbs total. ?I was overweight (size 14-16) pre-pg and so we tried to keep the wt gain to a minimum. ?I think as long as baby looks good you shouldn't worry.
  • I have only gained about 11lbs. However I have lost almost 3 lbs. in the last 7 weeks ( I had gained 14) since making some diet changes due to Gestational Diabetes. I am continually losing a tiny bit at every appointment, but the Dr. hasn't said anything yet. I am having ultrasounds every week at this point and everything seems to look perfect, so until my Dr. says something, I'm not going to worry about it. I'm actually going to enjoy not gaining as much as I did with DS!!!
  • A lot versus a little really depends on your pre-preg BMI. I was on the really thin side and I've only gained 20 (lower than recommended for my starting weight). Had an appointment today and I'm measuring right on track.
  • Up about 10 pounds from pre-preg (was low-normal weight pre-preg).  Doctor is not concerned because baby is measuring on track.

  • I just weighed in today with exactly the same weight gain. Nope - the doc is pretty happy with baby and me and even said I probably wouldn't gain too much weight now.
