when you cook butternut squash

does it kind of stink?  it smells almost like sour cream that has gone bad.  HAHAHA.  i've never steamed it for lula and i made it today and it's kind of smelly.

i bought the already cut up chunks from costco - so i assume it's still good.  the sticker said best by 12-15-09 (which i know was yesterday, but one day past is ok, right?)
