i would love to keep my audi a4 after the babies arrive just not sure if it is feasible. would love to hear from other moms of twins who didn't go the suv/station wagon/minivan route.

  • If the twins are your first 2, I don't see why you couldn't keep your sedan.  That was our original intent.  We drive a minivan now because 3 car seats wouldn't fit in a sedan.

  • We have an accord and a trailblazer.  We mostly use the SUV when i take the girls out.  But I do have the bases in the accord since my DH will pick them up from day care.  I just like the SUV because it holds more (like a stroller)

Exactly our situation.  We also planned on keeping just our 1 TIINY Honda Fit (we were a 1 car family), but plans chab=nge when you're surprised with twins.

  • Glad you asked this question.  My Dh drives a Mercury Milan and I have a Mazda 6 (which I love) and am hoping that will be ok with twins.  GL!

  • We have a volvo s40, but as soon as we can afford it we are going the suv route. It's a tight fit with everyone and everything in it. I'm 5'8" and my husband is 6'1" and with the car seats in the back I fit alright, but my husband eats his knees. Plus the stroller takes up almost the whole trunk.
  • my advice is to go borrow a double stroller and two baby seats and see if they fit.  my bff that is having twins ended up buying a volkswagon wagon in order to find a car that would fit her gear and still be somewhat "sporty" looking and fast :)  ETA-sorry!!  didn't realize i was on the multiples board!!  going off to mind my own business now Embarrassed
  • Unfortunately I'm having to get rid of my Acura RDX (a small SUV - the inside is no bigger than a sedan) because DD is still in a carseat and it won't fit three. That being said, we had originally planned on keeping it when we thought this was a singleton pregnancy so I don't see why you couldn't have the 2 carseats in the sedan.
  • We drive a Toyota Camry and the car seats fit perfectly!  My husband is just shy of 6 feet and drives comfortably (the seat is set as far as it goes and does not touch the car seat) we'll be driving this vehicule until we decide to have another child at which point we'll look at getting an SUV.

  • DH and I shared a Chrysler 300M until recently (i.e. the first 9 or so months of the babies' lives). It was fine, but I now have a Kia Rondo (a CUV) and we love it. It was definitely doable with the 300M; we just needed a second car anyway and that one seemed like the best for us in our price range. Just make sure you get a stroller with a reasonably small fold. :) (We have the City Mini, and used the DSNG for the first 6 months.)

  • we bought a crossover when we found out we were having twins (my old car was a 2 door civic-def not ok) and it isnt as big as we thought when we bought it. we have a dsng and with grocerys sometimes i still wonder how it all will fit. trunk space would be a concern for me with a sedan. i like the idea, borrow a double stroller and see if it fits and then go grocery shopping.....
  • I had a BMW 328xi when they were born.  We just got rid of it the end of October.  Both front seats needed to be all the way up.  It wasn't a problem for me, but mh is over 6 feet tall.  So it was very uncomfortable for him.  We got an Acura MDX at the end of October and it is working out great for us.

  • thanks for all the feedback ladies! mh is 6'5 so it sounds like with the seats in he wont even fit in the front seat. i think our plan right now is to keep my car and if it doesn't work once the babies arrive we will worry about it then. we are lucky b/c my parents have 3rd car that is a pathfinder so if we desperately need a bigger car before we can buy one we can always borrow theirs.

    thanks again!

  • I drive a Honda CRV. While it's officially an SUV it's built on the same frame as a Honda Civic, so it's a small car. I'm 5'10" and we haven't had a problem fitting 2 car seats in the car. There's no room between the seats for a person to sit, but the 4 people in our family fit just fine. We have absolutely no plans or desire to get a bigger car.

  • I tried out 2 infant seats and my sons convertible seat in the back of our Honda Civic and they fit.  Its a tight fit, and not ideal, but it will do for now.

And all 3 easily fit in the back of our CR-V as well.

  • We both have Camrys and they work just fine with our girls. We will get something different when we have more kids in the future but we're still good at 6 months.
  • We drive a Toyota Prius and a Lexus GS300.  We manage just fine -- and DH is also 6'5".  The key is to choose your car seats wisely!!

pekabluhm - do you mind me asking what stroller you went with?  I too have an S40 and am hoping that the Quattro Tour Duo will fit in the trunk.
