Rust colored poop?

When I changed DS's poopy diaper today, his poop was rust-colored and had spots of dark brown/black in it.  Anyone seen anything like that before?

He's been really constipated lately (straining to poop, and then there are 2 or 3 hard little balls of poop), so we recently started giving him 4oz of 50/50 pear juice & water twice a day (per pedi).  He also has Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease right now, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

He's acting fine so I'm not really too worried, it just seems odd.

    DD had brick red or rust colored poop once when she was on antibiotics for an ear infection.  I don't remember specifically what she was on, but it really scared me.  I took her to the pedi and they ran tests, but other than the change in color she was fine.  I don't know anything about Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease - is he on any medication for it?  If so, maybe that is the reason for the change?  I would call the pedis office and let them know.

    My son is on Omnicef for and ear infection right now, and our pedi told us that would be one of the side effects of the antibiotics. I would call to be sure though. GL

    Nope, no meds.  It's something, unfortunately, that just has to run its course.  I think I'll watch it for the next day or so and if it doesn't change I'll call the pedi.  Thx!

    That must have been what my DD was on.  I so wish that the pedi would have given me the warning that yours did.  I totally freaked out when daycare called!
