Re: holy swollen feet and ankles!

  • ive had swolleness ever since i was 4 months pregnant.  i just elevate my feet when i get home, thats pretty much it.  i read somewhere that being in a pool or tub help too because the water pressure will help bring down the swelling.  i havent done this so i dont know. oh and drinking lots and lots of water helps to flush out the extra edema.

  • Elevate your feet as much as possible. Drink lots of water. Also, support hose (Ted or Jobst) are great. You might want to check with your doctor first if you are really swollen before getting the stockings though. Good luck!
  • Keep a close eye on how much sodium you are consuming. I would drink diluted iced tea when my feet were swollen- to help flush out the swelling.

  • My feet, ankles, and legs just began swelling a week ago. The doctor told me the only thing you can do to get the swelling to go down is to lay on your side. Apparently our feet and legs swell because our uterus is smooshing our kidney, so the kidney is not getting enough blood, so therefore not producing enough urine. He had a whole little skit to go along with this, which totally made me laugh! Smile He said it was nothing for me to worry about and that it would go away two weeks after the baby is born. All I have to say is thank goodness it's winter and my legs and feet are covered!
  • Lots of water, elevate feet and lay on your side when possible.
