Pregnant after a Loss

Opinions on when to find a nanny......

So DH and I would like to have a nanny to watch Makayla when I go back to work.

Here's the time line we have:

She's born at the end of April.

I will go back to work in July.

My mom will be staying with us until the first of August.

So there for, I wont need the nanny until the first part of August. I have no idea when I should hire one. I have already started looking but needless to say I still have to find one that we love and hire her.

  • The only suggestion I have which is what came from a friend of mine, is make sure you overlap your nanny's first week of work while someone is still available to be around.  Meaning, if you want a trial week while you are still on leave or if you feel comfortable with your mom doing this you should look into scheduling it that way.

  • I have been a nanny for over ten years! Personally I think it is wat to early to hire someone. I think the earliest to start looking would be May or June. That way you might get new graduates who might have something to do for the Summer and can start in Aug. Good luck, hope you find a keeper!
  • I think it's still pretty early in terms of securing a contract with a nanny, but you have some time to research things like live in vs. live-out care; whether you want to do a nanny share; host an au pair, etc. So IMO - I'd say to start looking in May for an August caregiver.

  • I would think that June/July is when you would start your search.  And agree with the suggestion to have her overlap for at least a week with you and/or your mom to ensure that you have the right match.  GL

  • I was a nanny and started in Mid august. I interviewed the beginning of may and mid may i was hired (3 days before baby was due) I then visited for a half day once a month til it was time to start. Then, my first 2 days mom was still off. but she was in and out running errands but available to help with the schedule.
