Some newer research contends that a large percentage of PPD cases are related to fluctuations in thyroid levels PP.
Either way, I would set up an appt with your Ob. If they think there's reason to believe it's thyroid related, they can order the appropriate bloodwork for you.
I have definitely heard of this. My OB/GYN did not check into this possibility, but told me to see a family doctor. I have tons of bloodwork ordered for me by the family doctor, including checking thyroid hormone levels. So we shall see. I will certainly post the update on my progress when I find out for sure what is causing my anxiety/depression.
I didn't make the call until 4 months PP. I think I suffered longer than I should have, mostly because I believed it was all in my head. Also, it took me going back to work to start really noticing the problem myself. That is when I finally said I couldn't handle things anymore.
It definitely carries the same symptoms and a simple blood test can rule it out. Otherwise there is no shame in admitting that it is PPD! We're all here
I noticed my issues with PPD very quickly, it spiraled out of control before I knew it and I sought help immediately since I recognized the major warning signs. But many women suffer unknowingly for months or a year before realizing.
