3rd Trimester

Can the baby drop without looking like it's dropped?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

It might just be wishful thinking but today it really feels like the baby is lower. My bump looks the same, but I feel more pressure on my bladder and the kicks (not really kicks anymore) feel lower, at least not in my rib anymore.

  • I think so because I feel like I look the same (although a few people have said I look like i've dropped) but I have the same symptoms as you and when my doctor checked my cervix she said she could feel his head.

  • DEFINITELY (IMO)! I know my baby dropped 2 days ago. I took a bump pic this morning and compared it to one I took a week ago and my bump looks pretty much the same.....except the bottom is fuller. But the bump height is still the same. I think everyone just carries differently and it might take a little time for the bump to catch up with the baby.

  • Well, my baby's head is very low and engaged...and I think my bump does not look any lower than it did before.

  • She told me.

I figured it was already, but we talked about my aches and feeling the rectal pressure. Also my labia this morning felt all swollen like something was inside me pushing...sorry tmi but true. She said that is a sign of baby's head engaging.

She then felt around my tummy and confirmed the head was down in my pelvis and the butt was up and out-meaning baby is facing my butt with it's bum toward my belly button.
She did an internal after too, but didn't mention feeling babys head.

I have been thinking mine has been engaged because of the extreme pressure but my doctor never tells me anything so I don't know for sure. I know he is head down because she actually DID tell me that and since she could feel his head by my cervix i'm assuming hes down pretty far but who knows.

  • I don't think I look much lower than I did before, but I know baby has 'dropped', b/c my OB said he's at 0 station and she can feel his head.

  • This has been the case with both this baby and w/ DD. Each time over a period of a few days I notice that I'm able to move a little easier. I'll be curious to see how things are going tomorrow- I said last time I wanted to check the baby's position and it *should* be pretty much set at this point- crossing fingers.

  • I think so, because my heartburn disappeared about a week ago.

  • Yes, especially if you carried low to start with.  I know the baby is lower but there is no sight difference in my belly.  I have carried low the whole pregnancy though so I think it is less noticeable.
