Harrisburg Hospital visitation policy

In October, Harrisburg Hospital drastically changed their visitation policy for the L&D and postpartum floors.  Now on their website, it seems that they have relaxed the policy a little bit.  Anyone know if this is true?

Re: Harrisburg Hospital visitation policy

  • Not sure what they are doing now, but I delivered there at the end of October and I was only allowed 1 visitor (of course it was my DH) - NOT one visitor at a time - just 1, period.

  • Can you please share where you found that info on the website? I have been looking off and on for updates to the visitation policy for L&D, but it's not a very user-friendly site!

I heard from someone who was admitted to L&D about 10 days ago that they were still enforcing the 1-person-in-the-deliver-room policy, which was devastating to hear because I want both my husband and my mom in the room with me when I deliver. She went on to say that other people could visit her during visiting hours, which have been shortened to 3:00 to 8:00. No visitors under 18, though.?

So 3 days after that, I asked my doctor, and HE said that the hospital is now back to allowing 3 people in the delivery room, with the reduced visiting hours and age restriction on the post-partum floor. I am very confused, but hoping my doctor is right!

If there is a clearer/more recent explanation on the website, I would loooove to see it! Thank you :)

  • You can probably call the hospital directly to find out.  I called the birthplace at Holy Spirit yesterday to see if they have changed it at all recently and they were very helpful.   The current visitation policy there is no one under the age of 18, and no sick visitors.
  • Yes, I am going to call on Monday to find out for sure what is the current policy.  When I was on their website in October, it stated that you were allowed 2 people (with no switching, meaning 2 people total, not just two people in the room at once) on the L&D floor.  On the postpartum floor, you were allowed only 1 visitor(no switching), which for most people would be the spouse or father of the child.  No one under 18 years old.  And visiting hours were reduced to 3-8.

Now the website has changed.  Here is the link: https://www.pinnaclehealth.org/services/pregnancy-childbirth/, then click on "visitation policy during flu season".  Now it just says no one with flu symptoms, and no one under 18.

  • I work for Pinnacle and I do believe they have relaxed their flu season visitation a little.  I don't work at Harrisburg Hospital though, so I can't help you there.
  • So I was able to call today.  The information I received was mostly regarding the postpartum floor.  I only intend for my husband to be with me during L&, so I really don't have any concerns about the policy on that floor.  They have relaxed their policy, and the visitation hours have returned to 12-8.  The only restrictions is that no one under 18 years of age is allowed to visit, even siblings.  They also ask that visitors use their judgement; if they feel sick they should not visit.

  • Thank you for the update... That sounds promising! I will call about the situation on the L&D floor.
