Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone use craigslist to hire a nanny?

I was thinking about it. We have daycare set up. At a persons house she will have 3 other infants. I am just rethinking it. I want to make sure my LO gets enough attention, stimulations etc...

So, anyone use craigslist for such a thing?????

Re: Anyone use craigslist to hire a nanny?

  • Ummmmm..... somebody did once. And then they took another woman's baby.

    Not a good idea.

  • i didn't use craigslist, but i used out local mommies network website...you can check this site to see if you have one for your area: https://www.themommiesnetwork.org/

i ended up finding the most amazing nanny EVER!

  • First thing I thought of was the craigslist killer.. lol..

Just wondering if anyone has done it.

I posted it and already got 2 resumes with references.

I saw someone in my area did it on there and I sent her an e-mail and she said the Nanny she found is perfect and that she had over 200 applicants!

  • I have not but my friend does in home child care and advertised for her families on craiglist. I think doing it that way has replaced paper adds.

As for your lady having 3 other infants.....the infant ratio laws around here are 3 to 1 so you may want to check into that. Also....with so many other infants you will want to make sure she has a strict sick policy so the babies are not spreading germs back and forth. GL

  • Thanks for the Mommies Network info!!
  • Try www.care.com - it's $30 a month but well worth it. You can cancel once you find someone.

    no problem! :-)

  • I found my sitter on craigslist.  She's great.

Checked references and visited the home.  Not everyone on craigslist is a baby-snatcher.

  • No effing way! I don't need a nanny, but if I did there's no way I'd use CL. I'd go through an agency where they do background checks.
  • On the other end of things, I was hired as a nanny through craigslist a few years back. It's just as scary for a legit potential nanny as it is for the family, but if you shell out the cash for a background check and everything, it's not really any different than using an agency (which I've also gone through, and can be equally shady. The one I started out with made it out like they check everyone out and know their nannies so well, but they only talked to me for 10 minutes and didn't so much as take my driver's license number.)

I would do my own background check, dmv check all the things the agencies do. They charge an arm and a leg for their services.
