Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Late crawlers plz come in.

So DS is 8 1/2 mo. and is nowhere near crawling. He doesn't even get on all fours. I know I will probably regret it when he is mobile, but I just think that at 8 1/2 mo. he should be at least close. Is there anything I can do to help him along? For those of you whose DC is now crawling, was there anything you tried to encourage them? TIA.

Re: Late crawlers plz come in.

  • We tried to entice DD to crawl many, many times.  She would end up rolling or sliding to get to the objects of interest.  Then one night, a week before she turned 10 months, she just up and crawled away from me right after I changed her diaper and before I could grab her pajamas.  I know it's annoying to hear, but they'll crawl when they're ready.  :)

  • We're in the same boat. Bri seems to be fine with rolling to wherever she wants to go.
  • Some babies never crawl, my sister never did. DD is just now starting to rock and scoot backwards. She prefers to roll everywhere.
  • DS started crawling a couple days after he turned 9 months.  We would put him up on all fours every once and a while.  Once he started doing that on his own, we'd put toys just out of his reach to motivate him.  (We weren't mean- we'd give them to him if he couldn't get them!) Not sure there's anything else you can do!

  • DS started crawling about a month ago.  He didn't even roll before that.  Well, he would by accident every once in a while but it was not a mode of transportation.  He would get on his hands and knees and rock for two months but really wasn't interested in much more.  In the space of a week, he went from rocking to scooting to all out crawling.  Nothing to worry about, really!

A friend who is on here on occasion's son didn't crawl until 13 months and he walked a week later.  I agree with the above poster, it sucks to hear but they will do it when they are ready.

  • I wish! DS is 1 year today, and still not "crawling". He does an army crawl, but doesn't get up on all fours. My pediatrician said some kids skip it, and not to worry!

  • I don't think 8.5 months is a "late crawler".

  • DS just started getting on all 4's this week, so that was a big step.  at his 9mont appt. the other day, the Pedi told me to just keep doing tummy time and to put his favorite toys just out of reach. t he just gets pissed off that he can't reach them and starts crying! it's not really motivating him yet!

  • Maggie didn't crawl until 10 mo and Molly is no where near ready either since she isn't sitting independently yet like Maggie was before she crawled.  You can put things out for them to try and get to but Maggie ended up crawling for my SIL's beaded flip flop - who knew that would be the most attractive thing for her?
