Babies: 9 - 12 Months

do you let child have a bottle in carseat?

since you can't burp them while in a moving car, is it bad to let them have a bottle while you're driving? (provided they can hold their own bottle--i'm not talking about propping one up for a tiny baby or anything)

ETA: i am not thinking about doing this on a regular basis, but I had to do it 'emergency' the other day because we were driving to visit family and were very late, so i fed him while i sat in the backseat with him

  • Nope.  If he needs to eat while we're out, I pull over and feed him.

  • I let her have a bottle while we are driving if she needs one.  She can hold her own bottle and sippy cup.  I've done both while driving.
  • Burping isn't really the big thing to be concerned about. It's choking!

If I were sitting next to him and he took a bottle, I might consider it, but I wouldn't just hand it over to him especially RFing were I can't see him.

  • I've given a handful of bottles in the car seat after he was 6 months or older when we were on very long car trips and he was refusing to nurse when pulled over.  After he finished the bottle we'd stop, burp, and diaper change.  Probably not the best thing to do, sometimes we just need to get through our 7 hour car trip!

ETA; I'm always in the back with him holding the bottle!

  • I've only done this twice and only when I'm sitting right beside him.
  • I would, but DS is a lazy bones and will not hold his bottle. He can--I've seen him do it. He just won't. But otherwise, sure, I would. I don't burp him anyway.

  • If someone is back there with him. He's a self burper, he really doesn't need any help.
  • Yes, Julia does not need to be burped.
