vomiting

My 1 month old has recently started vomiting after her first morning feeding. This has happened 3 times within the past week. I have been holding her upright after eating, burping her, etc, but that doesn't always work. Any advice? I am thinking that it may be because I am really full in the morning and the milk comes out fast, but I don't know how to prevent this. Thoughts? Does this happen to anyone else?

Re: vomiting

  • We just got done with a stint of LOTS of vomiting that I hope stays away..it lasted about 2 weeks. I have no idea what was wrong with him and we even took him to the doctor. He did lose some weight...but he is now keeping things down so they are not too concerned. What kind of vomit are you dealing with? Is it the whole bottle..like gushing out liquid or is it a yack and some liquid falls out? The best thing we did to help it was keeping him upright, letting him lay on his tummy after feedings (i know doesn't sound like it would work), making him slow down while eating, giving him a 1/2 oz. less, burping, and then he takes zantac for GERD. The zantac won't help the spit up/throw-up but it keeps them a little more comfy and less fussy. If for some reason your LO will not keep anything down or goes without a wet diaper for 8 hours call the doc.

  • Thanks! When DD vomits, it seems like it is a lot. It will cover her entire front, or mine- whoever she gets. It sounds like it does when an adult vomits. Afterward, she doesn't even seem phased, and isn't crying. She typically falls asleep soon after (once she's had a bath and been changed) and continues with her day as normal. She is still wetting and soiling diapers as usual and it typically is only after the first feeding of the day when she throws up. I will try keeping her on her tummy and giving her less (although I am bf which is harder to regulate). Thanks!

  •   Hi neighbor!  :)

Nora spits up a TON in the mornings when I'm fullest.  The pedi. said to pump an ounce or so before feeding her, so the letdown isn't as fast/strong.  It's helped a little, but she still spits up on occasion, and it's usually on me.  I second pp about putting her on her tummy for a bit after feeding.  That seems to help too.  Good luck!
