TTC After a Loss

Advice Needed (long and charting mentioned)

This morning when I took my temp it was 97.25, A whole tenth of a degree below the coverline. I thought it was weird so I took it again and it was 97.35 (the coverline.) At first I put the first temp in and FF took my O away. I took it out and put the 2nd temp in and FF gave me my O back.

I have been worried about my low temps all cycle long. I worry that it is a progesterone issue or a thyroid issue but it wasn't until today that I considered going to the Dr.

This cycle has also been very strange. I have a fever for several days and had ewcm for weeks on end. I figured that being sick delayed my O but now I am concerned I am not Oing at all.

However, I did get only 1 positive OPK, 2 days before CD30 (when I think I Oed,) I had the tiniest bit of spotting on CD30 which I took as a good sign (ovulation spotting) and my ewcm finally dried up on CD29.

So here is the advice I need:

#1 Should I try to get into the Dr. asap or do I wait another cycle so I have 2 full charts and I know for sure there is an issue?

#2 In your opinion, did I O on CD30 or have I not O'ed at all this cycle?

TIA ladies. I am trying really hard to not get emotional about this but it is hard...

Re: Advice Needed (long and charting mentioned)

  • I got lost in the details, and I'm no chart expert....but I'd see the dr.  Just to ease your mind that there's not an underlying issue.

  • I know it is a lot of details. I just really want opinions on whether or not I O'ed. I don't want to get my hopes up.

  • 1.  When was your fever?  Between CD what and what?

    2.  Were you taking any medication for your fever? Perscription or OTC?

    3.  I think you ovulated.  You had a positive OPK and a clear thermal shift.  It's not unusual to get a temp or two below coverline during the 2ww.  Coverline is just something FF uses to prove to you that you had a thermal shift.  I'll be willing to bet that if you put in another day or two of high temps it will give you your CHs back.

    4.  I'd go with the first temp of the morning.  While it may not be what you want, it is more accurate.  Charts are not meant to be what you wish your body was doing, it's meant to be an accurate representation of what your body is doing.  You're only cheating yourself by putting in the temps you'd rather believe.  I know this from experience.

    5.  Sometimes FF is stumped.  There was a girl here recently who got a BFP and FF had never given her CHs.  She ovulated (obviously) but for whatever reason her chart just wasn't reflecting it.  Maybe she'd had a fever, etc.  You still have hope.  I'd hold off on going to the doctor.  I have a feeling you're going to pay a copay just to hear them say, "Don't worry about it and come see me after you've been TTC for a year."  So helpful, huh?

  • I might not be much help.  Temp-wise it really doesn't show a perfect shift for O'ing, but that doesn't mean everything.  My temps don't follow a perfect pattern and my OB says I can chart, but they don't put too much stock in it.  I got my pg on a month FF never gave me CH.  I know it's hard, but try not to stress too much.

If your doc is willing to meet with you, I'd say go for it, if it puts your mind at ease.  Some do like to see 3+ months of charts to work from.  I do think you should keep your first temp of the morning though, unless there is a reason you think it's not accurate.  You might not like it, but in the long run, an accurate chart is better.

The fever was CD21(in the evening) - CD23. I just took tylenol for it.

I will take your advice and put the 1st temp in. Bye bye CH's...sigh.

That is exactly why I was asking for advice on going to the Dr. I don't want to go there and get let down.

Thanks for reading my long post and taking the time to write such a long response!

  • Heathergirl posted everything I meant to say. . . so she saved me time.

As for going to the doc - I'd wait out a month or two.  How long have you been charting?  Did you just start?  It takes some time to get to know your body.  My sis went to the RE with only 3 cycles in hand, but it was enough for the RE to look at the charts and put her on clomid immediately, without sending her away to try longer.

This cycle will be my 1st full cycle charting. I think I will be holding off on the Dr. and in the meantime I am going to do OTC Progesterone cream.

I'm glad that you agree that I O'ed. I need all the hope I can get for Christmas Eve.
