Does anyone here with Mirena know if it prevents ovulation? I have Mirena and swear that I have shown signs of ovulation which kind of worried me. I wasn't sure how exactly the device worked and couldn't find anything on the website about ovulation.
Thanks!
Re: Another Mirena Question
If you look at the Mirena website, the makers of the Mirena don't know or understand how it works either.
I have one and eventually most women's periods stop completely (mine has), and also their ovulation. But as long as you are having your period on it, you might be ovulating. The only way to really know is use OPKs and chart your temps, or so my doc told me.
I will say that I cramp with it in, about once every two weeks or so. It feels like my old ovulation pain, but no periods two weeks later. And every two weeks is far too common to ovulate.

even the makers aren't 100% sure how it works
that goes for all IUDs. and my fetus will be proud to tell you she worked her around one (not mirena, but still).
The thing about birth control is that different levels of hormones do different things to different people. And everyone wants the lowest dose of hormones possible. It is why I went on the Nuvaring in the beginning. But the hormone level was too low to prevent my body from ovulating, which led to DS.
So the Mirena might make you stop ovulating. It might not. The same with the BCP, Nuvaring, Depo Shot, or Patch. But the IUD also prevents in other ways, or so they think.
