15wk doctors appt. question

Hi, ladies I have a quick question for you guys. I have my 15wk appointment tomorrow and my husband wants to come, just in case they do another ultrasound :) But I would hate for him to go through so much to get off work and theres no ultrasound, he could save that for another day. This is my first baby so I'm just wondering if maybe someone could tell what all might happen. The doctors office was closed before I could call and ask them. Any insight would be great!! Thanks in advance!!!!

Re: 15wk doctors appt. question

  • i would not expect an u/s unless you are having pg complications or have a very unusual dr. that gives u/s at every appt!

  • Unless you are high risk, you will pee in a cup, get weighed and hear the heartbeat with a doppler.
  • for me they did weight b/p urine and heartbeat and any questions we had....it was 15 min tops!

  • It's hard to say- you probably won't get one but it depends on the doctor. I wasn't supposed to get one at my 12 week appt but I did because I got there early and the machine was free. I plan on being early to my 16 week appointment next week to try to have a repeat Stick out tongue

  • You probably won;t have an u/s but if you haven't heard the heartbeat yet on the doppler then he should come! My DH was more moved by the doppler than the u/s :)
  • Thanks ladies!! At my very first appt they did one, and I was shocked and then at my 10wk appt they did another so I wasnt sure if this was normal or if maybe I just got lucky at the first one :). Its just so hard for him to get away from work that I dont want to tell him to take the time and then I'm in and out. He can save that early day for the BIG U/S!! Thanks again!
  • chances are you probably won't have another ultrasound unless you're having/have had complications in the past.  my "normal" appointments so far have usually consisted of peeing in a cup, getting weighed, checking my blood pressure, listening to the heartbeat with the doppler, scheduling upcoming appointments and answering any questions i might have or anything the doctor thinks i should know for the next month (symptoms to watch for, things that normally happen during those weeks, etc.).  since you're at 15 weeks they may be able to schedule your big ultrasound for between 18-22 weeks or so as well! :)

  • I didn't have an ultrasounds at my 15w appointment - then again, I'm not having one until I'm 20 weeks, so I wasn't surprised.
