I didn't think I had any hemorrhoids since I got through the six week pp check-up without her seeing any and without me having any discomfort, but I had to go to the doctor on Friday because there was blood in my stool (uggh TMI I know) and I had been having pain during bowel movements, etc. After having to endure stuff up my ass, I was told I have an internal hemorrhoid and if the over-the-counter suppositories don't do anything, I might need outpatient surgery in a month or so. I've upped my fiber intake and started drinking extra water and I use the suppositories, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Please tell me that if you had one, it went away...I really don't want to go through surgery for something that humiliating.
Re: Can we talk about hemorrhoids? (TMI)
did you try the foam? called proctofoam... the suppositories are helpful but definitely give you the farts.
I still have blood in my stool occasionally, so I can't say I'm cured but eating lots of fresh fruit with skin on (like plums, pears and apples) is helpful. Some say metamucil is helpful as well. I'm terrified of the surgery as well. I think if you don't have a bowlful of red water when you poop, you're getting better.
I have an internal and an external hemmie. I have been able to manage it through diet and rarely need medication. I eat a lot of fiber and I drink a TON of water. Also, I limit my intake of foods that would aggravate my bowels like dairy and caffeine. When I do those things, I don't have pain or bleeding.
Is your's possibly a thrombosed hemmie? That's where an internal one pushes out. I know, it's gross. I had that once and it was the most pain I've ever been in in my entire life. That is the only time my doctor gave me suppositories but they upset my stomach thus further aggravating the problem. A thrombosed hemmie eventually resolves itself. In the meantime, sitz baths, ice packs, diet and water are about the only thing you can do. I thought surgery was a last resort because I've heard that recovery is painful and it can cause other problems. GL!
I had this for a few months post delivery. Bascialy the only thing that made them go away was fiber and supositories (4 times a day)
Literaly, a pain in the butt!
It is so, so nice to know I'm not the only one with this issue, though I'm sorry that you all are going through it too. I'm hoping the suppositories, fiber chews, water, and fruit help enough that I don't have to go in for surgery. My doctor said if the pain was still there in a month or two, to come in, so I'm assuming it could take a while for this to get better. I just really hate the idea of strangers poking around internally.
I'm pretty sure it's not the kind that sticks out because she didn't tell me it was. I had no idea these could rear their ugly heads this late. I thought for sure if I was going to get one, I'd go home from the hospital with one.
