Cookie Price

Re: Cookie Price

  • If I were shopping for them as favors, I would want to pay about $.50 per cookie but would be willing to pay $.75 to $1.00 per cookie.  I am a cheapo though.

  • As I'm sure I've mentioned a zillion times, my good friend is also really into baking and stuff.. (she got 2nd place at the cookie contest at the fairgrounds festival of lights last night).. Last year she was taking orders for cookies for christmas.. I THINK she was charging $30 for a dozen cutouts since cutouts are such a pain to make and decorate.

  • Maybe it was only $20 or $25.. $30 seems like a lot.. I know it was more than I wanted to pay her for cookies.. LOL.

  • Those cookies are too cute! I would say instead of setting a per cookie price set a price per dozen that you are comfortable with. But keep in mind what happened with your Sweet 16 cake, you under priced! Since you are still starting out maybe charge $23/doz.  that would be around $1.90 per cookie. Keep in mind the amount of time per cookie and mentally add an hourly rate to your cost.

So if ingredients cost $10 and it takes 3 hours to make the cookies you are only charging $4.30 a hour! Value your time as much as the product!

  • My friend and her mom have a baking business (that started very much the way you are starting out).  Their cutouts are $18 a dozen (I think).
  • I think $20 a dozen seems reasonable (about 1.66/cookie).  Those look like they could be a little labor intensive to decorate.
