Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I need help with finger food ideas!

I seems like a job in it self to figure out finger foods soft enough to feed DD and prepare them. She is not liking purees lately and I need to start w/ more finger foods. Which ones do you do? How do you prepare them? Do you steam them or bake them? It was so easy to just buy baby food and now I have to figure out a system to make finger foods so she will eat solids!

  • canned peas - I've cut up peaches and apricots too

  • I usually steam them.  For vegetables we've done sweet potato, squash, green beans and peas to name a few.  For fruits, I've given her pears, banana, and peaches.  Depending what we're eating for dinner I'll give her pieces of that too, so she's also had grilled cheese, toast, chicken, and turkey.

Oh she loves cheese too.  I buy individual packets of string cheese (colby, cheddar) and just cut pieces off of that too.  She really likes her cheese.

  • My DD is eating lunch right now ... steamed broccoli, baked sweet potato pieces and brown rice with black beans.

For breakfast she had some purees, sweet potato, pieces of toast and banana.

We just do a lot of soft fruit and steamed veggies, rice, beans, risotto, and pasta.

  • I steam and cut up frozen peas, green beans, broccoli, carrots, etc.  I also cut up fruits like bananas, pears, etc.  I bake things like apples, squash, and sweet potatoes.  Basically steam or bake whatever you want until it's soft and then cut it into bite-size pieces.

Here are some recipes and resources if you want to do more complicated stuff (Caro loves the turkey loaf and broccoli-cheese nuggets):
