Tips for keeping two year old entertained?

I need ideas ladies.  Andrew seems to be bored most of the time so I need some new tricks.

Things he's into

-Books, digging in the dirt/sand, his cozy coupe, anything outside (which usually = a freezing mama), playing with water, jumping, he's obsessed with making pancakes and then using the spatula to flip them over and over :) Stickers and puzzles.

Not into

-Coloring, water paints.

He's getting a kitchen for Christmas and a baby doll so those will help on the toy front but I am stuck on activities that don't involve me sitting outside freezing in 50 degree weather.

Activities/toys any suggestions?

  • How does he feel about Play-Doh? We got Eve some "baking supplies" from the Target One Spot - rolling pin, wisk, cookie cutters - and she's been using them with her Play-Doh and having a blast.

Have any big boxes around? We made Eve a fort this weekend and she loves it. Sheets and blankets also make good forts.

That's all I've got right now. I'm looking forward to other ideas though.

  • Does he like Puzzles? Puzzles would keep Grey entertained for a very long time.

  • I made Ty a batch of play dough last week and he'll sit and play with it forever. He loves it. I also snagged a rolling pin and some cookie cutters at the dollar spot at Target...he's in heaven!!

Legos- he'll build towers, cars, towns...LOVES them. He also loves his blocks and trains. He mostly about his trains!!

  • Play doh is a good idea, we've yet to try that.  He does love puzzles but I have to hide them for awhile and then bring them out again or he's over it.  I really debated getting him a train table for Christmas but since he's getting the kitchen this year I figured next year would be better (plus Cooper will be better able to play with it).  Boxes are definitely a big hit but forts are iffy.  Usually he just wants to destroy it, same with blocks he's not quite able to build yet more in the make a tower and knock it over phase.
  • I also second the lego/duplo stuff.

Izzie loves magna tiles also - those keep her really occupied.

  • Hmm - for inside toys:

shopping cart, cars/trucks/racetrack, tools, mega blocks, playdough (loves playdough), and cooking stuff.

for outside (although this doesn't help the freezing aspect):  my first scooter, stomp rockets (which can also be used inside as long as your ceilings aren't too low...mine are high and at 2 he could rarely stomp hard enough to get it more than 4 feet off the ground...and their nerf-like).

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

I love the stomp rockets idea.  Our ceilings are standard but I still think he could have fun with it and when it warms up then it would be a great outside toy too.
