I would do both. Some people will get the picture, others may need you to be a little more obvious!
I've been thinking when I tell (not for a few more weeks) that I'll probably say something like- the rumors are true... we're pregnant. Or something like that. But mostly because I know a few people suspect.

i would use the words. i dont know if i am going to share ultrasound pics on fb, it is a private thing to me. i am going to come out on new years day, ill be 12 weeks then!
I came out on FB a few weeks ago but didnt have any u/s pics to share.....but simply said....."LouRN09 is tickled pink, or maybe blue!? We are thrilled to find out in June! " We are on team green so we literally will find out in June, but you could always play around with the words and say "...and is expecting in June!". Have fun! Its so fun reading everyone's comments.
I put "... is eating for two this holiday season." And my profile pic was u/s. Got tons of responses on both. I printed them all out and will keep them. :-)
I am waiting till we hear the heartbeat (hopefully) at the Dr tomorrow then I plan to announce on FB. I have a little stocking hanging up on the mantle for Bug along with ours. I am going to make that my profile picture and just see where it goes. It is super subtle and cryptic, and then I don't have to write something obvious like "we're pregnant. And I can see how intuitive (read: smart) my friends are :-)

When we come out I will probably put up there something like "pregnant women should not have to shovel..." and see what happens.
It would have been appropriate with the blizzard that came through on Wednesday, but we are not ready to tell.
I plan on posting my U/S picture with the title of "Introducing our new little one" or something to that effect.
