Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

The movie Precious (no spoilers)

It is the saddest movie I have ever seen in my life.

I am so not a Tyler Perry or Oprah fan. But man they really did an outstanding job with this movie. It will make you go home and thank every star in the sky for your life.

I totally recommend it, with a box of tissues.

Re: The movie Precious (no spoilers)

  • I completely agree!  It's one of those movies that puts a lot of things in perspective that's for sure.  Yes

  • I won't go and see it.  I live it everyday at work. (Down to having a kid named Precious). No thank you - I don't need it as "entertainment"

  • Is that the one about the pregnant teenager?
  • I want to see this, but I don't think I could see it at the theater. I think I'll have to wait so I can watch it at home. But, I'm pretty easily disturbed. My brothers have a running list of movies I am not allowed to watch. I should have listened about Requiem for a Dream. That one had me upset for at least a week.

  • I read the book Push a few years ago.  I was very surprised to see it on the top 10 lists a few months back, because I didn't know there was a movie coming out- I thought it was kind of an "underground" type book.  Not entirely sure why they felt the need to make a movie since I found it to be a modernized, urbanized re-write of Walker's The Color Purple, but I'm glad you liked it.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't handle it since anything even remotely emotional makes me dissolve into a weepy puddle of goo these days. Embarrassed

  • I have been wanting to see this movie since I heard about it.  I just haven't been able to go.  I really enjoy alot of Tyler Perry's movies so I think that I will appreciate this one as well.

Me too.  I am sure I am going to have to see it with a girlfriend though, wont be getting dh to see it.

  • I haven't read the book. If the book is like The Color Purple then it is different than the movie. I guess I could see where you would draw the similarities, but The Color Purple was so different in so many ways.

  • I really want to see this one ... but will have to wait for PPV.  I prefer to not come out of a movie looking like a sodden mess.  :)

  • I have had my fair share of issues in my life and I know I don't live under a rock about how bad some people have to live in our country. But man. I just wanted to go in and rescue all of them. OMG and Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz, their roles were awesome.

  • I saw it and man...just reading this thread is making is making me tear up again, that's how much the movie got to me! I hope Monique gets an Oscar nom.

  • I saw it and thought it had many more uplifting moments than I thought it would.  I worked in a non-profit for years and have seen similar situations, including having a girl on my caseload named Precious.  I don't consider it entertainment, like I don't consider Schindler's List entertainment, but I think it is definitely worth seeing.  If someone sees it though and realizes that those lives exist and that they get a new perspective on "reality", it had done its job.

FWIW, Oprah and Tyler Perry had nothing to do with the movie until after it was made.  They just put up money to do the distributing and promotional stuff.  Lee Daniels, the director, deserves the credit, along with Gabby Sidibe and Mo'nique.  They all deserve Oscar noms.

    That is good to know.

I agree about the "entertainment" thing. I didn't look at it that way either. I think it is eye opening. It shows someone a world they might know exists.
