2nd Trimester

constipation sucks

sometimes i am so regular, then i go on this stretch with constipation. ugh! what do you do about it besides drowning yourself in water?

Re: constipation sucks

  • Colace (or anything with that active ingredient). Take two, then follow up with one the next day.

    Lots of fiber helps too...

  • Loading the player...
  • my ob recommends coalace, the softener.  I havent actually tried this since I have a really hard time with pills.  I also try to eat things that, prepregnancy, would really "move things along...." For me, broccoli does the trick!
  • I have been having the same issue.  My doctor recommended that I do benefiber daily and take colace as needed.  Since the benefiber isnt really doing anything for me, I think I am going to have to go on colace fairly regularly.

Edit: I was actually so constipated that I have been having bleeding when I strain to go to the bathroom.  This is why I was instructed to do benefiber and colace.

  • I feel your suffering! I am the same. I go a few days constipated, then I get normal again. Grrrrrr.

I want to try Colace. Doctor also said Senekot is good. I think Activia yogurt helps too!

  • I agree!  I started sprinkling All Bran Buds on my morning bowl of "baby dictated" Frosted Flakes.  So far so good.  I think it's starting to work.  We shall see if my good luck continues!

Edit:  And Activia!  I've learned not to strain....OUCH!!!

  • it's even worse AFTER you have the baby.  I remember being so afraid to have to go, it was awful.  :(
  • colace here I come! thanks for the advice!
  • I experienced some cramping with colace so you might want to try taking before you go to bed.

And it also doesn't kick in right away, so if you need relief faster, take Milk of Magnesium - both came recommended by my OB when I had the worst case of constipation ever!   The Milk of Mag got me to go and then the colace has helped me to stay somewhat "regular"....in addition to eating lots of fiber and gallons of water...

Try the Milk of Mag in cherry...still not the best going down but better than the regular.  GL!

  • Constipation was a way of life for me...I've tried colace and other stool softeners recommended by my doctor....just don't always work.

I started taking Expecta DHA supplements and OMG...no more constipation.  It's a miracle drug that benefits the baby!

  • I've been eating an apple every day...you know what they say!
Seriously though, the fiber in it must really be helping me. I feel like a new woman!
  • 8 oz plum smart every day.

  • Number one, why does colace have to be so expensive?  $13 to poop?  It's worth it though.

Number two, I finally broke down in my second trimester and started drinking a little coffee that seems to help with digestion.

Number three, in addition to the colace/metamucil tablets I started acupuncture and that's helping a lot.  I also go through patchs with being regular and then being constipated for days, it's lovely, why do guys not have this problem?
