DH is flying alone for the 1st time with the baby tmorrow...short 2 hr flight. Any helpful tips are appreciated!
He is still deciding if he wants to bring the car seat/stroller, or just a carrier. We have a car seat waiting for us if we don't bring ours, but no stroller. It is a 5 day trip. WWYD? I saw a post on here that suggested putting the car seat in a bag for gate ck...anything needed for the stroller?
Re: flying/traveling with a 7 mo old
We have flown several times with Grant - although, always together.
I don't think we could live without the stroller (unless I always wore him - which I wouldn't/don't) since Grant is like 23+ pounds/30 inches and does not use an infant carrier anymore.
You can get gate check bags online or at BRU and sometimes (always?) the airline provides them. If flying alone - I would probably counter check the carrier and just put LO in the stroller until boarding time and then gate check the stroller (this is were him wearing the baby would be helpful so he has his hands free and LO is safe while he does this).
Bring a couple NEW or exciting toys (I can't believe the parents who don't bring toys for their LO on a plane)
Feed going up and coming down to help with ears (we've never had an issue though)
LOTS of sanitizer wipes (and remind him a million times to wipe his hands at every stage of the process - ie: after checking in, after going through security, after getting on the plane, and wipe down surroundings on the plane).
Make sure he brings enough formula or BM to compensate for delays because there are a lot of them this time of year
If you haven't already booked (which it sounds like you did) I always go for first thing in the morning flights 1) LOs are most rested, 2) planes are less likely to be delayed and you have more of a chance of getting out at a reasonable hour if they are delayed
Anyway - good luck!
Exactly this. I have flown several time and 'check' with the flight attendant when you get on that its OK to leave the stroller at the end of the jetbridge. They usually respond by putting it in the coat storage on the plane (something that they aren't supposed to do but is great because you don't have to wait for it when you get off the plane). Also, take spare clothes, DD always has blowouts on the plane for some reason. But, 2 hour flight, he will be fine. The baby will be able to tell if he is stressed so tell him to stay calm...
I would definitely bring the stroller. You can check it at the plane gate/door and be able to use it as you go to and from the gate.
You can also check your car seat for free.
