Success after IF

started my registry today & have some ?'s

so, i have some friend in NC that are going to give us a GC & soft items shower when we are there for new years, since we won't be back again before the baby is born. this drove me to finally register for the baby, at least at target so far. even after reading baby bargains, i have some questions. maybe they told me #'s to get, but i am not sure.

so, here are my questions:

1) how many bottles/nipples will i need? i plan to breastfeed, but you never know how that will really work out, right? what is a good number to start with?

2) how many fitted sheets do i need for the bed? along those lines, how many mattress covers?

3) did you register for breast pump, monitors, strollers, car seats...you know, the larger ticket items?

4) how many blankets do you need?

any other tips you might want to grace me with would be appreciated, too.

thanks ladies!

    1) how many bottles/nipples will i need? i plan to breastfeed, but you never know how that will really work out, right? what is a good number to start with? I EP'd the first month and never used more than like 4 bottles.  If you EBF (which we do now) 2-4 would definitely be enough to get you started.

    2) how many fitted sheets do i need for the bed? along those lines, how many mattress covers?  I have one of each.  I probably should have 2, but it's worked out so far.  I just do laundry when he isn't sleeping.  ::shrug::

    3) did you register for breast pump, monitors, strollers, car seats...you know, the larger ticket items?  Yep and I got every single one of them, including a $400 glider.  Go for it!

    4) how many blankets do you need?  I wouldn't go overboard.  People will give them whether you register or not.  The first few weeks we mostly used the blankets we took from the hospital.  Then I moved on to muslin ones I bought myself, which I still use for random things.  I never really used the receiving blankets I registered for.

    Have fun with it!

  • Congrats!  Registering is super fun -- but hard too.  Here's what I did.

    1) how many bottles/nipples will i need? i plan to breastfeed, but you never know how that will really work out, right? what is a good number to start with? We registered for no more than 2 of several different kinds of bottles - Born Free, Avent, Dr. Browns were the ones I remember.  We actually didn't get any of those.  So we ended up buying 2 packs to try -- DD is EBF and has pretty much expressed her extreme displeasure with all bottles at this point but she takes Avent, Adiri (which is now out of business I believe) and the bottles that came with the Medela breast pump.

    2) how many fitted sheets do i need for the bed? along those lines, how many mattress covers?  We have 3 sheets, 2 mattress pads.  Works for us.

    3) did you register for breast pump, monitors, strollers, car seats...you know, the larger ticket items?

Yes, we did.  We didn't receive any of them but several people gave us GCs to go towards the items.

    4) how many blankets do you need?

I actually didn't register for any blankets and received a ton.  Somewhere north of 30 blankets.  We actually do use them all.  Every day I take a new one out of the drawer and it because her blanket, her spit up rag, her lovey...everything she needs.  And if it gets dirty we toss it in the hamper and get out another one.

any other tips you might want to grace me with would be appreciated, too.

The best thing I did was register with a friend who has three children of her own.  She helped me narrow down my selections.  I also did a lot of editing online after I'd registered when I changed my mind.  Have fun!

  • 1) how many bottles/nipples will i need? i plan to breastfeed, but you never know how that will really work out, right? what is a good number to start with? I didn't register for any or buy any until after dd was born.  I bf her and she rarely takes a bottle.  We have 1 that we've used a handful of times.

    2) how many fitted sheets do i need for the bed? along those lines, how many mattress covers? We have 3 fitted sheets and that has been enough for us.  I also have 2 PNP sheets.  I have 2 mattress covers.

    3) did you register for breast pump, monitors, strollers, car seats...you know, the larger ticket items? We bought the crib, crib mattres, dresser, glider, breast pump (the Medela comes with a few bottles) and bedding ourselves.  I did register for (and received) quite a few big ticket items: a video monitor, our travel system, Britax Marathon, Maclaren Quest, PNP, highchair and swing.

    4) how many blankets do you need? I didn't register for any blankets and got 100,000,000,000....ok just kidding but I did get more blankets than I know what to do with.

  • I have twins but I'll give my advice cut in half for how many I use for one!

    1) how many bottles/nipples will i need? i plan to breastfeed, but you never know how that will really work out, right? what is a good number to start with?  I couldn't breastfeed but we figured 6-8 for our formula fed

    2) how many fitted sheets do i need for the bed? along those lines, how many mattress covers? 2 sheets and 2 mattress covers to start out with.  I think though I'm going to end up buying one more for each crib soon.  A few nights in a row we had a couple spit ups the more ounces they are now taking in.  But two is good for starting out

    3) did you register for breast pump, monitors, strollers, car seats...you know, the larger ticket items? absolutely, we got it all and more!

    4) how many blankets do you need?  I have about 4-5 receiving blankets per baby.  One is always in my diaper bag, one in the family room where we spend most of the time.  As far as regular blankets we didn't register for any but most've received about 15-20.  We use them a lot, we have a few in the car, some out in the family room, the handmade ones we do use tucked in their crib if it's cold out since they have holes in them.  There are some I haven't opened yet but are there for backup.  They are great on top of car seats and strollers.

Everything was bought off our registery, people were so generous.  I was very stressed registering for some reason, it wasn't as fun to me as my wedding registry.  I would say register for anything you think you need.  The boppy pillow is our friend by the way!

    1) how many bottles/nipples will i need? i plan to breastfeed, but you never know how that will really work out, right? what is a good number to start with? We had three different kinds of bottles and bought no extra nipples - I'm so glad. BFing didn't work out and neither did any of the bottles we had. The flow on all were too fast so we bought dr. browns - didn't work - and then bought drop-ins and loved them. Once we knew that we purchased all the nipples and bottles. I was actually thinking it's a shame I have 2 3-packs of different bottles that he will never use (not wide neck nipple) that I got at my shower. Not sure what to do with them!

    2) how many fitted sheets do i need for the bed? along those lines, how many mattress covers? We have one trad mattress pad and one crib size lap pad (love this!). We have 5 sheets but probably don't need that many. I do his laundry every other (or every 2 days). We have 2 pnp sheets where he slept at night for 8 wks and that worked fine.

    3) did you register for breast pump, monitors, strollers, car seats...you know, the larger ticket items? No to breastpump b/c I wanted to see if it would work out first (they gave me nice manual at hospital), yes to monitors (sony and we love them), yes to umbrella stroller and yes to convertable carseats. Also the pnp. We purchased the furniture, metrolite stroller and infant carseat.

    4) how many blankets do you need? This will vary. I know people that love receiving blankets. We have about 15 and I was thinking of giving a few away b/c we never go through them. We love gymboree cotton blankets - have about 6 and use them regularly. We kept all but one blanket. We're giving one away but other then that we use them a lot. I keep a few in the living room, and then I grab them after his bath, use them on the floor for tummy time, put one under him in the bouncy sometimes, keep an extra in the diaper bag, etc. I figure we have enough and they should last for #2.

any other tips you might want to grace me with would be appreciated, too.

    thanks ladies!
