It started looking like a few dry patches on his body , now there are more and I lotion him up twice a day. When I went to his pedi she said it was just dry skin, but there are more spots now.I use Aveeno lotion and soap for him, but I feel bad because it doesnt seem to help.
How did you know it was ezcema other than your pedi telling you? Does it go away? What do you use on your child?
Re: if your child has ezcema come in
If you are moisturizing your child regularly and it is still there beyond a few days then you should take the baby to see a dermatologist. Trigger areas for eczema are creases of the elbows, behind the knees, groin ,hand etc these areas tend to be warm and moist causing a break down in the skin.
Obviously your child can have eczema in other areas but those are the most common. If your child truly has it then moisturizer is not going to fix the problem. Most pediatricians dont prescribe adequate treatment of eczema thus why they send patients to us in dermatology.
Hate to be a debby downer, but DS1 got this 3 weeks after birth and still has it, nearly 2 years later. He also had terrible baby acne and cradle cap. The eczema has gotten better, but he still gets his "breakouts" in all those trigger places.
We use Elidel (prescription) for his. So far, no eczema/cradle cap/baby acne for DS2 and he's 3 weeks old. I'm crossing my fingers. All of that stuff was such a pain in the you know what.
