talk to me about weaning....

I don't think we are quite ready yet...but I have no idea how to go about it...so if you weaned (or if you child self weaned) how did it happen?  how long did it take?

    DD self-weaned at 18 months.  She started dropping nursing sessions at 14 months ... first after work, then morning, then naps, then before bed.  One night she fell asleep before nursing.  The next night I offered and she refused.  And that was that.

    DD self-weaned at sixteen months. I was willing to go longer, but she was done :( I'm still a little sad about it because it was kind of abrupt for me. We had been down to one nursing session a day, and she just shoved me away the day she turned sixteen months after less than a minute. She was done, and that was that.

    these answers are giving me hope. I want so badly to believe DD will self-wean. But I am doubtful. We are still nursing up to 7 times day/night.
