DD has to be held ALL the time- Help!

My DD will not let me put her down! She will be fast asleep in my arms and as soon as I put her down she wakes back up crying... I try & wear her in my moby for part of the day but I can't wear her all day! What have any of you done to help break this?? I can't get anything done...help! TIA!

  • I know it's frustrating, but she's very, very little still--you just have to ride it out. She's too little to be "broken" of something--but give it a few weeks....she'll start letting you put her down for longer periods of time as she starts to discover things. Just hang in there!

  • We're dealing with the same thing with LO.  The only thing we have figured out to do is wait until she is completely out and put her down then.  It's also helped to swaddle her so that she feels more secure. Good luck

  • I hold DD 95% of the day. I just do things one handed. Swings and bouncers are our friend.

She'll grow up soon enough and you'll be begging to hold her. Relax, housework can wait. :)

i don't swaddle her during the day..i guess i could try that. but i do use a swing..she just doesn't like to be anywhere except in my arms when she's awake! thanks :)

  • I found that stage rough too. Starting at 2 months, she grew out of it. Now she plays on her own really well. Hang in there!
  • I agree with PP-just hold her-you can't get that time back. Buuuut when you need to put her down-try warming her crib with an electric blanket or heating pad-remove it and put LO on the warm spot.
  • Ditto ppers.... We went through the same thing. I would sleep nights in the chair holding my DS. I thought I was going to go crazy. But now he is fine. Sometimes he would rather sit in his bouncer than have me hold him. :o(

  • Hold her. She's 6 weeks old! WTF do you have to be doing that's more important?
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

Wow, someone's not having a good day..

  • Just to answer for the op...there's a lot that has to get done that you can't do when they have to be held all the time.  I havethe same problem.  I can't take a shower for days, I go so long without eating that I feel like I'm going to pass out, I can't go to the bathroom without having her scream while I do, I can't make her bottles or wash bottles out, I can't feed the dogs.....it's crazy how much you have to do that becomes impossible when you cant put them down, not just housework.

My problem is compounded by a 4th degree tear that makes it very difficult for me to walk, get out of bed, stand up and sit down, and I have strict doctors orders to take 3 baths a day, do sitz baths, and every time I go number 2 theres a bath and a cleaning process that takes 30 minutes every time.  Try doing that with a baby that has to be held.

  • Good luck! I feel like every few days I notice that it is getting a little bit better buttt I still feel like I hold DS all of the time and don't get anything done ever!

One the good side - my DS has begun sleeping for 4 hours in the night!!! yay!!!! There is hope for the daytime as well!
