What did your babies belly button look like when the cord fell off?

I can't remember with DS1 but DS2's is starting to fall off and it looks a little red and irritated around it.  Is this normal?  Does it completely just fall off on it's own? It is sort of detaching on one side.

    Both of my boys' detached a little at a time. I just let it until it completely fell off. I didn't want to mess with the stump and cause any problems.

    LO's came off in one full piece. My pedi said watch for redness as it is a sign of infection.

    Half of my sons is off.. and its gooey under it.. kinda gross! I'm just going to leave it alone and let it fall off when its ready... although we're ready to not have "sponge" baths!!!!

    William's hasn't completely fallen off yet. I mean the majority of it has, but he's got some leftover in his bellybutton. IT looks like a scab lol.

    DD's came off all at once a week ago - still have a little bit of brown sugar looking ooze from it.  BTW - everyone here has said no worries re full baths with the stump still on, from our pediatrician to the home RN the hospital sent out and the LC's.  We did and no problems.

    My daughters got a little red and oozey and just dangled a bit until it was hanging on by a thread. We actually had it cauterized on friday because the base was still a little draining even though the stump has been gone 2 weeks.
