well, i have been posting sleep/schedule related questions for what seems like forever now. dh and i finally decided to ST with cio for our difficult sleeper. she's always been a catnapper, and tough to put down, but it got to the point that she could only sleep during the day if you were holding her till she was in a deep sleep.. and those naps only lasted a short time till she realized she wasn't being held. also in the middle of the night, when she would fall asleep after nursing, i would put her in the crib and crying would start. basically, things were getting worse quickly. i don't have to tell you how complicated things get when there are 2 babies and only one you!
we called our ped (as well as asking on boards) if it was OK to do since they are a little premature. ped said NO, don't do it till 6mos adjusted. lots of posters said NO, too young... which by the way, i do appreciate!! it's honesty i'm looking for with my questions
well, we were just at the end of our ropes. thought i was headed for a serious breakdown - no joke. my baby was getting more and more overtired as the days went on. she had a wired, wild look, and fussed so much.
so we started wed afternoon with 3rd nap (strange place to start, but dh was home alone and she NEEDED a nap). she cried 30min, and then slept. wed night she went down fairly easy. but after 2am nursing, cried for 75min. yesterday with naps, she cried 16min for 1st nap, 1min for 2nd nap, and 40min for 3rd nap. all the naps were decent length... at least 45 min. best of all, her 2nd nap was 2hrs!!! my sweet girl! it's amazing to see how much their moods improve when they get the sleep they need.
last night she woke up 2hrs after a 2am feeding, so i knew she wasn't hungry - cried off and on for 30 min and then slept till her regular wake up time.
today her 1st nap was almost an hour, and 2nd was 1 1/2 hrs!
i am elated - and just had to share!
here's the kicker, after she woke from nap #3 yesterday, she rolled over for the first time... 3 times in a row! probably the increase in sleep difficulty was due to all the development going on. but she is catching on to this self-soothing so fast and i'm glad we've started ST. hope i haven't jinxed things now.
