Greenville Area Hospitals

Hi Everyone!

Wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences at Greenville Memorial or St. Francis? I am interested in a natural birth with the freedom to move away from the bed. Is that asking too much in these centers? Let me know your thoughts.

Also if anyone has had a doula and/or midwife assist them, I would LOVE to hear your story as well. Thanks everyone!

Re: Greenville Area Hospitals

  • I delivered at St. Francis 2 wks ago.  I did have drugs so I can't help you about the natural birth aspect of the hospital.  The nurses however were amazing.  I had a great experience with all of them, and they were very supportive and kind.  When i went in we were the only ones in L&D and my nurse never left my side.  What I've heard from others though is that the doulas there are great.  I hope this helps a little

  • I delivered at Greenville Memorial in Feb.  I had a great experience.  The nurses and lactation consultants were amazing.  I did not do the natural birth thing however so I can't attest to any of that. Good luck!
  • I don't have a personal experience but I do however have a huge family. All the babies that were born at Greenville Memorial, parents were very upset and put out with that hospital. St. Francis is a much better choice, they have a nicer facility, wonderful staff, and they try to please you with your wishes.
  • I delivered my son at Greenville Memorial and everyone there bent over backwards for us.  I have nothing but good things to say about it.  I did have drugs so I can't attest to their options for drug free births.

I would suggest taking tour of the hospitals so you can ask questions in regards to their policies on drug free labors.

    Good Luck!

  • i delivered at Greenville memorial march 08 and it was great.  the facility is awesome and the nurses are too.  they are pretty high intervention so you may have to make your wishes well known about what you want to happen.  they'll immediately hook you up to an IV when you get in "just in case", so talk to you ob ahead of time.  i had an epi but i'd really like to try a natural birth this time.

i've been to st francis a few times to visit friends that've just had babies and the place just doesn't smell right to me!

  • Thanks so much everyone for sharing your experiences! And let me empathize that I wish to attempt natural birth. No promises here! My husband and I are not yet ready to TTC, but I'm glad to have the information you all have shared with me.

I've heard great things about St. Francis as well. My SIL delivered there twice and she raves about it.

Several friends have delivered at Greenville Memorial with mixed reviews. Lots of interventions as someone mentioned though.

    Thanks again!

  • I delivered at St.Francis in July and loved it. L&D was packed when I went in but they stayed by myside. The LC department is WONDERFUL!!!
  • I can not say enough good things about St. Francis.  It is an amazing hospital with equally amazing Lactation consultants.  I will be having this baby there also no doubt.
  • I delivered at Greenville Memorial with my son January 2008.  We had a WONDERFUL experience.  I totally had an epidural, so I can't help you on the natural side.  The L&D staff is GREAT!!  Very supportive and encouraging.  I changed doctors offices and now I will be delivering via c section at St. Francis Womens.  I have heard amazing stories about it and my old boss had her baby there.  They sent her home with food...WOO HOO
  • i know this post is dated from november but i really wanted to add my input. i had my first child at Greenville Memorial and couldn't imagine a better hospital. All the nurses and doctors were great. I had no complaints other than the rooms were smaller compared to those at St. Francis. still i would choose GHS over St. Francis for my next child. However, my husband and I recently decided ttc. I did not like my last ob/gyn so i was looking for a new one when i found out that Greer recently opened a new Birthing hospital that may be just what your looking for with the natural birthing. You can find out more about it through the Greenville hospital web-site, for it is a branch of GHS. Very updated! No one mentioned this hospital so i just wanted to throw the option out there.
  • I know this posts is kind of old, but I don't check over here often but I wanted to add my 2 cents. I delivered at St. Francis and loved it!!! I changed OB's within my 1st trimester to Highland Center for Women (I love them also) and this is where they prefer to deliver. I arrived at L&D at 4 in the morning and the nurses were so nice. Throughout my stay, they were there for everything I needed and provided food and pain medication ASAP when I needed it. The lactation nurse was great and came to check on us multiple times. They had someone come and give me a quick back massage before I was discharged and the cafeteria sends you home with a cooler bag full of snacks. If I have another baby, I will deliver there in a heart beat.
