3rd Trimester

I have new insurance, do I give my card to L&D if I go?

Sorry, I wasn't sure how to work my subject line. I have new insurance, just found out today. My doctor is participating, so is my hospital. If I need to go to L&D before my next appointment (where I would of course give them my insurance card), do I just show my new card to the people in Triage and tell them I have new insurance?

  • check to see if your hospital has online preregistration. Mine does, so all they have to do is make a copy of the card when you get there.

  • You can make a copy of it and fax it to registration. They should have you onfile already if you are registered.
  • Actually, take both cards, just in case. I'm in a similar situation, my insurance company is changing underwriters Jan 1. It all depends on when your new insurance technically kicks in. I have my new insurance card even though it's not valid yet. Hope that makes sense

  • I preregistered online but they still wanted me to come in to photocopy my new card.  Go to L&D and they will send you to their office person :)

  • Thanks! I'm in the U of M health system, so I didn't have to register, I'm already in their system. I'm going to call the office and ask on Monday (if I haven't had LO yet. My OB doesn't think I'll make it to the next appointment). I'll definitely bring both cards if I go to L&D before I can talk to the office.
